A simple errand to pick up herbs in Orgrimmar led to a profitable and entertaining evening.
I was able to resolve a request from a fellow Caer Darrow Council member with relative ease; the results of that endeavor should be interesting. Afterwards, as I was relaxing in the Gallows, I struck up conversation with a Death Knight who expressed interest in returning to "life." I don't know of any way to make his undead body live again without assistance of one kind (who I have promised to never speak to again, a promise I fully intend to keep) or another (which certainly has the power, but is very unlikely to have the inclination). However, it should be possible to transfer his--mind, spirit, soul, Shadow, what-have-you, into a living subject.
If he were a typical Forsaken--or, indeed, virtually any other kind of undead--the matter would be fairly straightforward, and I believe that I could accomplish it myself, with minimal difficulty. However, he is a Death Knight, and as such, he has some kind of... entanglement between his soul and his runeblade, if I understand the process correctly. I asked him if his blade was awakened, and he asked me what I meant, which I take to mean that it hasn't, so that's one less problem to deal with. But the larger problem, of how to transfer him into a living body with part of it still stuck in a weapon... well. Obviously, that's a problem I have no idea how to approach.
So, I will have to ask the Doctor... and that's where things get tricky. ((some scribbles)) Put bluntly, he is not going to like the idea of returning a Death Knight to "life." It will no doubt be an affront to him, to his ideals for the unity of undeath--scorning the gift of the Shadow, and the power that he has been granted as a Death Knight. He will see it as weakness, a defect that would be better destroyed than coddled, and I must admit that to some extent, I agree. However, I would like to make the attempt for two reasons: first, because I am, above all, a researcher, and I want to know if it is possible--the pursuit of knowledge should come before any scruples of morality or ideology; and two (the lesser consideration in all honesty), because he will then owe us a very powerful favor.
If the Doctor refuses to assist in the process, it's unlikely that it will succeed. There may be other options that can be explored, but... well. I'll discuss it with him at the first opportunity.
And then back to Orgrimmar to complete my original errand, where I had the opportunity to chat with several blood elves, including Athane Darksun (who noted the amusing coincidence between his surname and my adopted one), Annicus... something, I don't remember his surname, and Sebrawn, who prefers to be called just "Seb," which is fine by me. There was also the Forsaken "Public Relations Representative," Lizaveta--a fascinating, strong-willed woman; and Yig, a troll from my former "tribe" affiliation. But of course no gathering of blood elves would be complete without the obligatory idiot/madman, a position ably filled by one Sorroto, who insisted that his antics were to "lighten the mood" and not to draw constant undivided attention to himself. I did enjoy prodding him a bit at the end; he took it poorly, of course, but rather than responding to my--pointed remarks he went into a sulk, which was too bad. Still, I have no doubt that there will be further opportunities for entertainment from him as time goes on. And having spoken with Athane firsthand, I better understand the Doctor's fascination with him. There should be ample entertainment from that direction as well.
