Old Friend

I made a trip today like I do every year about this time to see an old friend.
I walked up on her and knelled down beside her. I took a moment to look around and see that it was all clear. I ran my hands across the groves that made up her name, not the same feeling I remember, but it's all I have left. I took a minute to think about the old times we had. The first time we meet, it was 9 th grade, Tux, Tom at the time introduced us, her smile would bring warmth to even the coldest day. I thought about all the times we shared, the parties we went to, and those long nights in the bed of my old chevy truck. The first joint I smoked and that bottle of Scotch we shared. Ten years, ten years of memories I never got to have. Ten years of things you never got to do with me. I was a fool not to be there that night. That night when I got the call, the call no one ever want to get. You did something you had never done before. By the time I made it there you were already gone, gone away, and we never got to have that night we had planned. I placed the flowers on your grave like I have done so many times before, and stood up and walked away, wishing you happy birthday.
