Week Four: Silver Lining
"Every cloud has as silver lining" - (Proverb)
I posted this entry up as private in another one of my personal blogs until I got this right ... and since I think the poem is decent enough, I have decided to post it up. In our last literature lecture, we were asked to write a poem on one of the gallery of pictures in our readings - the one that most appealed to us. Flipping through the different images, one particular picture caught my attention: 'Running Before the Storm' (Unidentified Artist). I'm not the most creative person in the world, and this poem isn't exactly worth any special award, but I thought I'd give it a shot anyway:

Run, Run, Run!
It's Coming, it's Coming!
The wild rustling of trees,
The cackling sound and rumble;
The please and cries of the animals.
Run, Run, Run!
Duck for cover, Duck for Cover!
The eeriness through the window,
The flapping of the door;
The wild movement of clothes on the line.
Run, Run, Run!
The storm is finally here!
Are you under shelter,
Are you safe inside?
The storm cannot be trusted,
But a rainbow is not far from sight.

But why did this particular image appeal to me, you ask?
Well, I guess it was quite comical in a way that this situation could easily happen to the best of us. The idea of the storm got me thinking about how it can be identified as a metaphor for the hardships that we may experience throughout our lives. But with that, there also comes the idea of the 'silver lining' after every cloud - that its possible for something positive and good to come out of every situation.
Have any of you noticed the fact that during the hardest times of our lives, good does indeed, eventually come out of it? Take friendship as an example. The loss of a friend is the stormy weather we face, yet we can gain a new friend in return: our silver lining. Thus, in our hardships, it is important that we think positively and believe that we can get through it all because despite whatever we go through, we will always come out as stronger people.
Sometimes we have to go through all of the challenges and the pain to prove that we are fully deserving of all of the great and wonderful things that will come our way soon after.
