Good Night Gracie

Apr 01, 2010 11:59

Gracie disappeared after Passover Seder on Monday, and hasn't been around since.

Our cat is 6 and a half, and not the kind to run away; she has had many opportunities in the past (open doors during construction, etc.), but she's always stayed inside.  This was a rainy night followed by a downpour day, but she didn't return to the dry porch or the garage.

Her brother, George, was lost during the construction last year.  He had a bladder infection, a deadly dangerous issue that had us rushing to the vet hospital, and while recovering he refused to take his pills, scratching and biting Jen and I even with a pilling tool and blankets.  He ripped a hole in a screen and ran outside, never to return last spring.

Now Gracie is gone.

On the plus side, my smaller son is allergic to cats.  But that's all of the silver lining I can find.

I know we have a coyote living in the general neighborhood; it is possible that it found both of them.  Or maybe they were both adopted by some unknown cat-lover a few blocks away and will live happily ever after together.  But I miss them both terribly.

I guess I have to say good night, Gracie.

And good bye.
