Kites in the Park

With apologies to the friends we didn't visit, this past weekend was the first in several months that we selfishly stayed home and played together as a family.

Saturday was beautiful, so we went out to the park.  Among the kids there my boys made friends with a girl whose father appeared with a Princess kite.  They had such a good time running around with the little thing that we had to get a few of our own.

Sunday morning we went to the evil Toys R Us.  There we picked up a pair of $1.99 kites and went off to the field, to find the little girl with the Princess kite was back again, her kite looking much worse for the wear.  I was so proud of my kids sharing their kites without a problem at all, even offering to share before being asked.  My bigger one had a little issue when the kite wouldn't stay up, but after a little coaching, (Run AWAY from the kite, not toward it...) he was much happier, and all had a great time.

Even my little one wasn't too upset when one boy he shared the line with ran a bit too close to a kite-eating tree, which naturally took its due.

We're going to have to get another "Transformers Bumble-Bee" kite, but we also have a new project; making our own kites at home.  (Cue the music: "With Tuppence for Paper and String...")
