I'm not sure if I'm sane. I'm also not sure if the chill will endanger the steel, but I have the bug and just have to get back to my forge one more time this year. The weather channel forecasts a 47 degree, clear day.
So at 12:30 on the 16th of November, I'll drag out the forge and anvil, dress in a sweater and my leathers, and stand around a VERY hot fire. I may have a 2nd anvil of my own, a railroad tie one; not super, but functional, especially in a large group, if anyone else is as insane as I am. I hope the pounding in the cold won't be bad for the anvil.
Projects for the weekend: 1) finish the tongs, 2) if
laughing_fox brings her anvil & fuller, I may make an arrowhead or two, 3) if I'm truly insane, I may try to make my fuller for my own anvil, the same experiment as last month, but I was reading about hammer-head work and may try to apply some of their suggestions... we'll see.
Oh, and there's the chance of working on forge welding to make some ground quivers. General concept: forge weld a 4 to 5 inch diameter circle; cut it open and shape it to make a bow-rest. Make a loop to hold the arrows on the opposite side below, and a point to drive into the earth.
So many projects, so little time!
