I'm always somwhat in awe about Shige's writing in those essays, and love to read the translations.
Since I havn't seen this essay translated yet, I decided to give it a try . Maybe others like to read it as well, so here it is.

( I would rather come down with an illness, than excessively injecting a vaccination against people. )

I know what you mean! When I read the last part there, I felt the same way.
Everytime I read an essay(translation of the essays) I feel like they enable me to look at the stuff he writes about from a new perspective.

Yeah, when I read about the part of him being suspected like that I was all "aw no!...poor Shige". :/

I understand Shige completely. Times have changed where things that we once considered to be so innocent suddenly become so criminal. But honestly that isn't isolated in Japan, because in the continental US it's pretty much the same thing. Thanks for the translation!!

Yeah, I think that encounter with the boy and his mum in Hawaii, who had no problem with him taking pictures, maybe made him think that it's only Japan or something. But I agree, you'll find people who are immediately suspicious everywhere, kinda sad.

I know! :) I love his writing for that. They always give me another perspective to look at or think about things.

you know i`m a Muslim girl so when i travel to any foreign country

people always look at me and some of them are taking pics for me secretly

coz i`m wearing the HEJAB .

i don`t mind that xD

sometimes i do ask them " do you want to take a picture with me ? "

just to make them feel free ^^"

then you are like the "open minded foreigner" shige described here and wished there were more of, that's good :D (I live in Berlin, and muslim girls wearing the hejab is not rare around here, so nobody takes any pictures cause it's a sort of "normal sight" :)..)

And there are a few more essays that havn't been translated yet (or at least I havn't seen them translated yet) and I'm probably gonna post another translation soon (I can't stop reading the essays, it's like an addiction *g*)
