More Talk Talk

and I was just thinking of another thing about talk shows that just makes me turn it off.

It's what I call "second derivatives". I'll explain.

As an example, something happens. A radio talk show will create a forum to talk about usually either what happened or the issues surrounding what happened. This is what I call the "first derivative". In my opinion, these shows are okay. They usually contribute something of interest. Next, though, you'll have talk shows that talk about either what happened on another talk show or the issues raised when they were talking about the original event or issue. This is what I call the "second derivative". These type of shows just make me frustrated or wanna turn it off. They very rarely contribute anything of substance. The only example that I can think of off-hand that does a decent job of this frequently is "On The Media", NPR's show dedicated to an analysis of media issues. Otherwise, I just feel like it's just people wanking.

I don't care what you think about what Glenn Beck or Bill O'Reilly thinks or said on his show. I don't even care what Glenn Beck or Bill O'Reilly think. I try to avoid them in the first place. Why does the show that I'm actually listening to or caring about care to publicize or echo these other shows?
