Scared Rider Xechs
I finished one route and is playing another, so I guess it's time to do another LJ entry~ Not going to do a proper one because I'm lazy like that but eh, impressions and feelings only I guess.
Setting:
There's a red world, a blue world, and a pillar ensuring balance between these two worlds.
One day, the pillar is no more throwing all balance to hell. Humans belong to the blue world, and ever since then, there's this... war/battle thing between the two worlds.
The only people who can fight against the red world creatures are those who can resonate with Substances (creatures from red world who had defected to the blue world). By resonate, I mean... it's like gattai. These special people are called riders. In this particular game, you play a girl who was tasked to command a rider unit (this is the sixth unit, IS).
In a nutshell, this game is about a rock band tokusatsu unit. You get to pick your favourite.
The characters/your choice of rider:
1. Yousuke (voiced by Suzuki Tatsuhisa)
He's a natural at everything he tries. Probably the strongest fighter among the IS. He plays the guitar... but more than fighting and music, he's best at cooking. He loves cooking for you and all his NAKAMA. He cooks when he's happy, or stressed, or just bored, or whatever and he will try his best to educate you out being picky with food and he's a darling. He also likes to use terrible cooking/food analogies when he talks. If you see me tweet spam about Tatsun, this is who I was talking about.
2. Takuto (voiced by Miyano Mamoru)
The other guy I was tweet spamming about. He's Yousuke's childhood friend and is the vocalist of their rock band. He's the total opposite of Yousuke. He used to be terrible at the guitar and singing and everything he does but he puts in a lot of effort to get good at something. He's a tsundere perfectionist who tries so hard, okay. As the leader of IS and the rock band, he was wary at the main character at first (in case she leads his nakama into danger, etc. and her background is very suspicious and stuff). Hates shiitake and is afraid of cats. Of course, this means Tatsun tries to put shiitake in the food he cooks for Mamo. XD
3. Kazuki (voiced by Takahashi Hiroki)
So much random Engrish. orz. All the "me", "you", "teacher", "love." ... He doesn't communicate well and he writes terrible lyrics. Absolutely terrible. I have no other opinions...
4. Hiro (voiced by Shimono Hiro)
Cuute shouta kid. Extremely socially inept. He kinda shuns strangers and initially shunned main character really hard too. It was probably a mixture of fear of battles and not wanting the main character to be a part of his "family." Likes to poke fun at Yuuji's age.
5. Yuuji (voiced by Kondou Takashi)
He's kinda like the big brother figure to Hiro (I think he likes to think himself as the big brother/caretaker of everyone in IS). The oldest person on the team. Not much opinion on him.
6. Hijiri (voiced by KENN)
A mysterious person who joined the team later in the game. Takuto was naturally suspicious of him and he seems to know a lot more than he lets on. He seems to know the main character though the main character does not have any recollection of him. Apparently he sings really well. He likes to act the part as an easy going person who nanpa everyone he sees (even his Substance).
Yusa plays an NPC who is a ninja. He keeps appearing at places randomly. orz. He got his awesome moments in the game later. There's also Angen who plays a Orochimaru lookalike from the red world, who has been one of the two people who started this whole battle/grab-the-girl game.
The Game itself (impressions and feelings):
I'm too lazy to go into plot but I really like the main girl character. She doesn't balk at the idea of commanding a unit in battle; she can tease the guy characs when they are being dumbcute (occurs a lot with Mamo. Teasing sometimes fly past Tatsun's head). Her teasing/trollface is the best. She's quite cute too when she was all flustered (that time when Tatsun was trying to teach her how to cut leeks but she wasn't holding the knife steady since he was TOO CLOSE and TALKING INTO HER EAR. Tatsun was just, "Why are you shaking? The leek is not alive. It won't run away.")
It's been a while since I actually teared up at a game too and this game managed to make me cry. Not bawling-kinda-crying... but painful enough to make me continuously tear up for a chapter. Haha (OR MAYBE I'M JUST WEAK NOWADAYS). It was so full of nakama dumbcute and then individual dumbcute after the initial COLD TREATMENT (only in chapter 1 and sorta 2) that the dive into serious shit really packed a punch. I like the difference between Yousuke's route and Takuto's route. Both are cute in their own ways I also ship them both together with the MC. ... I just hope that nobody perma-dies in Takuto's route. I like that there are so many choices in the game that I just don't have the time to start stoning through it. The Substances are a lot of fun too, especially when they bicker with each other. Now I just need to finish Takuto's route so I can get a better ending.
The downside to this game however, are the battles. The battle animations were repetitive and honestly the first four battles were uninteresting.
Anyway, bottom line is, I really enjoyed this game~ Now I need to get back to playing Takuto's route. Perhaps after Takuto's, I will go after Hijiri, and then start Custom Drive.
