No rain for Bumbershoot. I did not even need to carry an umbrella everywhere. Weird.
Day one: Saw no one I knew. Got an extra ticket, but could not find anyone on Facebook friends to use it. Sat in my pocket all day and night hoping for a cell call. Might not do it next year. Previous years have been perfect for it though... Entered Seattle Center through the Mercer gate. Much faster that way to get to the comedy pass line. (^:= After that line, I went to the One Reel Film Festival and saw Films4Families. About 50 people were there with kids. Only one kid cried and had to be taken out. The first short film was about two blobs and their antics of picking their ear and nose and falling off of rocks and silly stuff. I can't recall the other shorts. After that, I walked to the Sub Pop Stage to see the end of TacoCat band. Seemed good. Kinda like Yeah Yeah Yeahs maybe...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fECMjg0KVs I recall a pink tutu on stage and I heard through the grapevine that they made it into the Seattle Times NW section! But their Facebook page has a tad much unintelligible.
Then I headed to the TuneIn Stage to see "Don't Talk To The Cops" It was maybe chaos rap and I sat down on the grass and listened and ate tomatoes and bread. Their Facebook page is pretty bare.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YnMMk2MQ1C8 Then I moved back to the SubPop Stage to see Unnatural Helpers. Made me think of CCR perhaps. Not all instruments meshed, but hard to make out the lyrics. One lyric was "My head is killing me, but I won't take it off." I think....(^:=
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdcXdx6deJw Then headed to Intiman Theatre for comedy. Ron Funches, Dan Soder and Doug Benson.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmGoj0W3Uk0 Ron was great! Here is a 2009 show of his.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GiY5SJW-Wo0&feature=relmfu Dan was cool. Here is a snippet.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZD1lZP9TJP4 Doug was super. Lots of drugs dude. Here is a sample.
After that, I went to the Best of SIFF Audience Awards and saw Judi Dench!! Well, in a short film. She played a funny gal trying to get a date on Facebook and her friend was egging her on. I don't recall a title for it. But SIFF website says Friend Request Pending. Here is the full list of shorts.
http://www.siff.net/cinema/detail.aspx?id=45779&FID=261 CatCam film was great. Many laughs and awwws as the cat was in the forest and the snake and the door opening and closing. Woman in it reminded me of someone I met a few months ago. The Guacamole film was super short and super clever. A baseball gets cut up into dice and nice slight of hand there. (^:= Then the half serious short film called Asad. Just when you think all hell is going to mess it all up, the tide turns down by the sea.
After that, I scampered to the SubPop Stage for Thee Satisfaction. Lesbian couple who had sync moves and grooves. They had some Prince moments and George Clintoeque raps. Very good. I think they closed the set with this song and swayed us with eyes closed.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGWFBt_IPOg Then I headed to comedy at the Vera Project which halfway is uncomfortable comedy and half silly. But we got a tad overboard on the comfort that time. Yow, three people left the front row...comedy can hurt feelings for sure. A few were ok with their bluntness, but two of the comedy troopers seemed a tad aware of their affect on the audience they lampooned too hard. I admit two jokes were over the line, so I hope they were therapy for the artist.
Then headed to TuneIn Stage for City and Color. Speaking of therapy...he is working some tough times out.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WRnZU8eBF0&feature=related The crowd was into this guy from Canada and I ate the last of my food and walked up Queen Anne hill to my dark art car with no parking ticket. Good day and eve. Thank you volunteers of Bumbershoot.
