Everyone deserves a pointless post now and again. I skipped the anonymous meme because anonymous is always on and most of my posts are unlocked already. The months old sex meme is going around again as well, but that’s more information than I’m comfortable sharing and I think it’s better to find those things out about people through conversations. So instead, here are the random things that have no poetic beauty or connection and the year-end meme.

I’ve been obsessing over the Parisian face transplant controversy; I’m amazed at how people are offended by the operation even when they consider the woman’s specifics. Normally I’m not to into the idea of plastic surgery but this woman was grossly disfigured and had difficulty eating and talking, how can you question someone wanting to try to live a semi-normal life? I don’t think she went into this without seriously considering the consequences, she’s risking a much earlier death from the medication she’ll have to take and risking her body’s rejection even with all of the medical care. People keep mentioning the ethics of it and I don’t see where the problem is, it isn’t as if someone was killed to sacrifice their flesh. I need to stop watching news programmes.

I saved a pigeon a few weeks ago and I’m hoping the good karma keeps me safe from the bird flu. I was walking through Central Park and I guess someone that had been feeding the birds left the plastic bread bag on the ground. An ignorant pigeon, they’re not really the smartest animals to start with, managed to get himself into the bag in search of more crumbs and couldn’t figure out the exit plan. If you’ve never seen a bird flapping around in a bag let me tell you, it’s funny in its tragedy. I had to take the bag and shake him out, he seemed all right and a little shocked but nothing looked broken. I swear he looked at me with his creepy, beady eyes with a sense of thankfulness. So, PSA, don’t leave plastic bags lying around.

I’ve been hanging out at the library a lot, sketching people and reading up on art history. It’s fascinating watching people, watching their movements when they think they’re not being observed. You wouldn’t believe the number of people that pick their nose when they think nobody is looking. That’s disgusting, don’t do it. I love to see how people arrange their personal space, building perimeters and finding ways to mark their territory with books, purses and backpacks, and jackets or clothing. It’s strange how people isolate themselves even when they’re in public. I love visiting countries with different ideas about personal boundaries; going out to eat in most Asian countries is brilliant because you’re usually put into whatever free seat is available and you meet so many interesting people that way. Here when you go out to eat alone you’re shuttled to an remote table as if your being alone is somehow contagious.

I’m heading back home for Christmas, back to the country and family. I thought about inviting the girl but I’m afraid I’d have to explain the situation and I’m not ready for that. Besides, I don’t think my mum’s heart could handle it if she was witness to an episode of arse grab fever when it takes hold. Some girls can’t keep their hands to themselves.
