Happy to be Home

There's home and then there's home. Hawaii's where I was born and grew. It will always serve as a touchstone for me. Someday I hope to complete my cycle of life there. It's a good place to be old, not least because the weather is kind to aching joints. Because so many seniors continue to survive and thrive there, the local government and society have many aids, opportunities, and accommodations available for both the aged and their caregivers. Every networked channel and a number of independents have daily programs to educate people about available resources. It can get a little depressing if one is not quite ready to roll over and decompose...

Alameda is where my cats are, where my heart has to be, where I am most at ease and content. There's nothing like feline therapy when things get tense. Here there is also a fairly sizable senior community, but right across every bridge there are thriving, striving young folk starting lives, living with gusto, celebrating joie de vivre (sp?). Here prototypes of cutting edge technology wander the streets and local news frequently catches the attention of CNN. There's room in the house for Wii and in the yard for a barbecue grill of substantial size. More important, the bulk of my personal library is here.

It's nice always to be going home, regardless of whether I am flying east or west. Perhaps, though, what I need someday soon is to find a different vector, just for a bit of variety. Binaries are dangerous traps, don't you agree?
