So my CD player is borked and I was forced to listen to the radio, which if you have ever driven in RadioFreeWyoming you know is made right out of suck and fail. Every radio station was playing all Chrimmas Music Alla Time, which is fine except when it makes me sad because I don't really want to be driving south on I-25. (And for those of you playing the home version, the first forty miles of the trip was driven in 4wheel drive on snowpack, whee fun, NOT!)
Since the radio stations are playing 24 hours of Chrimmas, they are pulling out ALL the albums. (Though I never get to hear Bob&Doug's 12 Days, but I do get the Redneck Twelve Days more than once, grr.) One of the songs I heard today was new to me (but very old) and caused me some dissonance as it is about begging for soul cakes and I associate them with post Samhain affairs and this was clearly a Christmas song. So I listened closely so I could remember some lyrics and look it up when I got home. I found a perfectly lovely version by Sting, of all people, and so I share. (The most amusing thing is that the obvious Pagan tone would have flipped me right out in my bible thumping years and is now the very thing that I find so appealing about the song.) So here, check out gorgeous himself:
