On FaceBook yesterday my former high school sweetheart/best friend/fellow geek sent me this poem, and coincidentally it is National Poetry Month. I thought it was sweet of him to send this to me, since Amy Lowell is my all time favourite poet, ever, full stop, end of story. But it seemed a little odd and out of the blue. When I returned commenting as much he said that I had given him a copy of this poem back when we were 15 or 16, he had run across it and decided to share.
Um. I did?
This proves two things:
1) I was a total sap in high school.
2) And my memories of said high school times are really very gone.
But it is a lovely poem, so I share.

One night
When there was a clear moon
I sat down
To write a poem
About maple trees.
But the dazzle of the moonlight
In the ink
Blinded me,
And I could only write
What I remembered.
Therefore, on the wrapping of my poem,
I have inscribed your name.
