We took the little train tour of the Zoo yesterday and we came around something called "Monkey Hill", which is basically a pile of dirt that has cool climbing rocks and rope bridge things off of it that little kids can play on. The tour dude says that it was made in the 20s or 30s or whenever so "the children of New Orleans could see what a hill is". Direct Quote! I kid you not!! I don't think that either the tour guide or the patrons of the zoo appreciated my cracking up at that. I couldn't help it, I had to laugh, dammit, it was funny. But yeah, it is real flat here.
Today was the last day of vacation. *full of sad* And the first day I felt any humidity at all. It has been pleasant and lovely and sunny. I have no idea what it is doing back home. Hopefully not terribly cold, I am so not ready for that.
I need to come up with a Mardi Gras costume now, since BBK is already planning my airplane ticket. My costume needs to be something that has pockets for my camera and stuff, so jeans would be ideal. I am thinking pirate, or wear my biboveralls and be a redneck. OH! I can wear my flannel peasant blouse and be a gypsyredneck like my yahoo ID. That would be easy, though I would have to explain it all the damn time. I am ALWAYS costumed as something I have to explain. Fuckit. I will just dress how I like and be a damn tourist. Honesty is always the easiest policy, isn't it.
Funny thing happened today. On my first day of vacation I ran into a kid who bummed a cigarette off me, and I usually don't give my smokes away but he seemed nice enough. We talked a bit and went on our ways. I saw him again today down in the Quarter, several blocks from where we were the first time and we talked again and he introduced his wife and I gave him another smoke and it was a pleasant little moment. Nicely bookended my vacation, that.
I had a lovely day, KK and I went souvenir shopping in Slidell and then down to the Quarter and had a snack and wandered around and I had a reading at Bottom of the Teacup, the guy was pretty good, if you go there, have a Tarot reading with Otis, I liked him. I wanted to go in a shop that I was in last year but couldn't find it, and the one I thought it was has been gone for seven years, WTF??? I was in a phantom shop I guess! Of course it could have closed in the meantime but I prefer to think it was a phantom, ha ha.
Anyway, vacation is almost over. *sigh*
I can't wait to come back! *cries*
