I spoke with my sister on the phone last night for the first time in about 5 months. You may recall my horror at the status of her yuppie life from my protected posts from around Christmas time.
Things I learned about Sara last night:
1. For her birthday next month she and her husband are going on a tour of California wine country. Because they really love the movie Sideways.
2. When I asked her what she wanted for her birthday she told me that gift certificates would be a great choice. She said that her favorite stores are Pottery Barn and Ann Taylor Loft. She's only turning 30.
3. When I told her I saw Lou Reed on 14th St the other week, it was met with stone cold silence. I don't think she's ever heard of him, or Velvet Underground. When I went through the rest of the list of my celebrity sightings from the past couple months, the only one she recognized was Gilbert Gottfried.
4. She told me that she doesn't have time to read anymore, but when she does, she is working her way through the novels of Sue Monk Kidd. Neither she nor her husband have even attempted to read the copies of Me Talk Pretty One Day and Middlesex I gave them 2 years ago.
When I was like 6 and my sister was 12 I thought she was so awesome and I totally wanted to be like her when I grew up. Now I can't think of a worse fate.
