So I've found myself in the last 2 days listening nonstop to the new Fiona Apple album and the new Daft Punk album. Fiona Apple takes me back to my sophomore year of high school when I pretty much hated the world and thought that Fiona Apple was so edgy because she got raped and had a crazy fucked up life and she was so angry with the world. (somehow I prefer to identify with that period of my life with Fiona Apple instead of freshman year of college when her second great album came out, but I was also on the verge of ending up in intensive care for a couple weeks with horrible pneumonia. good times) And Daft Punk takes me back to sophomore year of college (when Discovery came out) and the world was great and we had these ridiculous dance parties featuring interpretive dance to the entire album.
Now I'm in my second year of grad school (kinda like a sophomore year, but it's the end) and I think I'm a much better person than I was at either one of those periods of my life. And I'm glad that I can look back on both those periods of my life within the context of now (how postmodern!)
Anyway, I know you all are bored at your jobs and it's time for more groupie fun on live journal:
what I was listening to sophomore year of high school (96-97):
Fleetwood Mac
Janis Joplin
Smashing Pumpkins
Fiona Apple
Blondie
Bjork
Radiohead
Weezer
what I was listening to sophomore year of college (00-01):
Daft Punk
Rainer Maria
Rufus Wainwright
Quasi
Built to Spill
Guided By Voices
Death Cab for Cutie
White Stripes
Ummm...why is it harder for me to remember sophomore year of college than it is to remember sophomore year of high school? Oh yeah, drugs!
Now you post your list while I go shower (sexy, no?)!
