Yukio Mishima, I thought i'd have a look.
Besides, he's a fixation of Richey Edwards' that I never yet looked into. I'd had some books of his on my wish list for a while but wasn't quite sure what I was going to get out of it until I saw the biopic
Mishima (1985) last night. What an MASSIVELY INTENSE person.
I think it was Germaine Greer that said her mother described the Japanese as a nation of flower arrangers and sadists. Racist as that is, it holds a kernel of truth with Mishima, a sensitive author into body-building who ran a paramilitary organisation. He is famously known for trying to start a coup - but then committing ritual suicide by disembowelling himself when it failed.
Bizzarely, George Lucas was an executive producer on the film. I now have to admit that I no longer think of the man as a complete waste of space when it comes to making films.
