Sanctuary 4x08 "Fugue"

Nov 25, 2011 22:12

This is it! The one we've been waiting for/dreading! ~rubs hands together~ All I know is that this kind of episode really go off in one of two directions. Either it's really good and it becomes part of the lore (Buffy!), or it can be a ridiculous experiment that makes you lose a little respect for everyone involved (Scrubs... for the love of criminy, Scrubs). I think Sanctuary will fall somewhere firmly in the middle. I just hope it's not all about Abby...

* Good lord. There's more choreography in a WWE show than in an entire season of Dancing With the Stars.
* For the record, I wish they were the kind of show that could get licensing to real songs. I'd pay to see Tesla tearing up a lab while singing "I Can't Decide" by the Scissor Sisters and Helen glares at him. And if the Big Guy sings, I'll call it awesome regardless! ~g~
* Whooooa, kick-ass Helen. WITH A GUN. Oh, my God. "That's not a knife... this is a knife." ;-D
* ...Deco? Will calls Declan DECO?! I think the nicknames have run amok.
* Tapping Kindler Wood Bakery! They have nice buns. ;-D
* "I haven't devoured a Canadian in months."
* Will? When someone's been studying transformations since the 19th century and they don't have an answer? That doesn't mean they're lazy. It means it's A FREAKING HARD CASE.
* Lalalalala.
* Hmm, Helen seemed very open to singing. Maybe Irene Adler was an opera singer because Conan Doyle heard her sing. I like Amanda's voice! It's very... like someone who is being forced to sing. But in a good way! ;-D
* "We never use that word."
* You know... I hate defending Gavin. But Henry, if you introduce your Abnormal side by saying "It's basically a werewolf," you can't snap at him when he calls you a werewolf! Even if you went on to explain the whole HAP name, the first thing he heard was werewolf. So.
* I love Helen and Henry both staring when he said "monsters" again.
* Where exactly IS Biggie, if he's not going to be there to sing? Taking Abnormals to Hollow Earth? I'd buy that. Head-canon until proven otherwise!
* The most jarring thing about the music, so far, is when it goes from singing to a talking scene. I do like how it's worked into the story and they're actually singing at the spur of the moment rather than... you know... turning to the camera as an aside.
* Wow, three really great musical numbers in a row. Henry singing The Parting Glass is almost enough to give this whole episode a pass. Oh, no, now I'm singing too... what on Earth should I do?
* "I. Love. MONEY!" Oh, Carlo. ;-D
* Helen's... what would it be called? The Briefing Song? Whatever it's called, LOVE.
* Saw the transformation coming. Love Helen backlit by New City!
* Oh, FFS... I'm so glad Will stopped himself before he yelled at Helen about not saving the person he loved. So, so wrong to yell at her about that when she's lost so much and so many. And so much horrible emotion on Helen's face. She didn't need to say a word, it was all right there on her face. Oh, Helen. Oh, Amanda. :(
* Daddy?! And oh... oh, wow. Forget what I said about Henry's little tralala. This episode needed to exist for that scene and that scene alone. So beautiful. The people Helen has lost are always with her. And they give her strength. So much love for (and in) that scene. I want an MP3, like, now.
* So is Declan an expert in hybrid species?
* I was wondering if we were supposed to be on Will's side for this, but the fact that Gavin is the one who helped him... nah. I don't think so. I trust Helen, too. If it was my girlfriend, and Helen had an idea? I would MAKE her lock me up. I trust her more than I trust myself. "Lock me up, don't let me interfere." Whatever happens, I would know Helen did her best. I... don't see Will making that leap. :/
* Did they just kill Abby...? I don't really believe it, but... WHOA, if they did? I wouldn't even gloat because wow. That's harsh. This whole episode has been thick with the emotional harsh. No wonder they had to sing it. :(
* Now it seems cheap that she lived.
* WILL feels cursed...?! I'm glad he didn't say that to Helen. Dude might have gotten a well-deserved slap.
* As I said on Twitter, I really hope the singing doesn't outshine the fact there was some dynamite acting in this episode. Amanda specifically brought it with both hands. Just the emotion on her face... just wow.
* And WILL referred to them as monsters. I've liked Will this season, I don't want to get in trouble with Will-fans. But this episode specifically seemed designed to put him on the other side. Henry, Helen and Declan seemed like a united force while Will ended up working with Gavin. I kind of wish there had been a final scene between Will, Henry and Declan just to deal with the fact they had to move him into a holding cell at stunner-point. And then at the end... what the hell was that? "It worked. It shouldn't have worked. That's why you suck." I really hope this is just an emotional upheaval moment for young William and not shades of things to come. I really do want to like him! But don't make the show about how he's right and Helen's been doing things wrong for 150 years. It works for a REASON. Helen works for a REASON. I don't agree with her about how he could run the network. Their styles are too different. Helen will put up a shield to kill John, she'll shut down a node and kill Henry, and she'll do it all for the good of the world. Will would never do that. And if he'd been around for the node thing he probably would have griped at her for it. I don't know. Will was in a very emotional place, but should that mean he can't do his job...? Helen's been in the same place before. She lost Ashley. And yes, she wasn't very good at her job at that time. Since then, though, she's shown a lot of strength in "Needs Must" and "The Good of the Many..." Maybe this is going to be Will's turning point where he starts to see the Sanctuary is bigger than his girlfriend.
* Wow, I rambled. Um, sorry, Will-lovers! That's just how I feel about it. What do you think?!
* Wait, Tuesday... what? Huh? Why? I heard a rumor and assumed they were doing it for Thanksgiving weekend. But then this episode was on Friday, so I thought the rumor wasn't true. ~scratches noggin~ Meh.
* I want an MP3 of Helen's briefing song and the Jim Byrne song. ~peers hopefully~
