Summary: Janet receives news that she can't wait to tell Sam.

It had been an endless week, taking the Hammond from one world to the next without a break. Messages to or from Earth were kept to a minimum to prevent the Lucian Alliance from intercepting their communications, so they were as cut off as Sam had ever been. She didn't have to check her watch as the end of her shift loomed; she knew it was only a matter of time before she could go relax. As much as she ever relaxed since taking this assignment. She hoped Janet was off-duty as well. She could really go for a deep tissue massage after the fourteen-hour day she'd just put in.

They were about to reenter hyperspace, starting a nine-hour trip back to Dakara, when Janet appeared in the doorway of the bridge. Sam and Gant both looked toward her, Sam's brow furrowing when she caught Janet's expression. "Doctor Fraiser? Is everything okay?"

"Do you have a second?"

"Sure," Sam said. She stood up and started to step away from her post. "Erin, you have the--"

"No. I want to discuss this here. Right here, in front of everyone."

Sam stopped where she was. "What happened?"

Janet moved closer to Sam. "We just got a data burst from Earth. Emails and personal messages, that sort of thing. There was one at the very bottom from Cassandra. She barely got it sent before the SGC sent the message. It just happened today."

"What happened?"

"The Senate repealed Don't Ask, Don't Tell."

Sam blinked. Colonel Gant said, "What does that mean?"

"It means gay and lesbian soldiers can serve openly without fear of repercussion."

Sam stepped off the platform on which her command chair was perched. "It's done? It's... over."

"It's over."

"I love you," Sam said. She cupped Janet's face and kissed her, Janet's arms sliding around Sam's waist as she returned the kiss with equal passion.

"I love you, too," Janet said when the kiss finally broke.

Sam stroked Janet's hair and closed her eyes. Eight years. She could finally kiss the woman she'd been in love with for eight years without fear. There was no more choice between the love of her life and her career. Sam brushed her thumb over Janet's cheek, wiping away the tears, and turned to face Colonel Gant. "I love this woman," she said.

Erin smiled. "I'm sorry, is that supposed to be new information?"

Sam chuckled and kissed Janet's cheek. "I'll see you..." She almost said, 'in our quarters,' but she changed her mind at the last second. "I'll see you at home."

Janet nodded. "I didn't want to barge in--"

"No, it's good. I'm glad you did." She kissed Janet's lips. "Love you."

"Love you, too."

Janet brushed her hand down Sam's arm and stepped away. Sam returned to the command chair and sat down, trying to maintain her composure for the fifteen minutes that remained on her shift.

Gant frowned. "I'm suddenly unsure if I can follow your orders, ma'am."

Sam smirked. "Be quiet, Colonel Gant."

"Yes, ma'am."

Sam leaned back in her chair and covered her mouth with her hand. She and Janet had a lot of things to do when they got back to Earth, the first of which was a trip to a state where they could legally take care of a certain outstanding issue. She looked at her watch and stood up suddenly. "Colonel Gant, take us into hyperspace whenever we're ready. You know where I'll be if you need anything."

"With Colonel Fraiser," Gant said.

Sam smiled as she walked confidently out of the room. "With my partner. You got it."
