I finally got the time to get back on my computer and update my journal. It's early morning in Anchorage, and hopefully today will be the first time where I actually feel like I'm back on Alaska time. Yesterday, my first day back at work was frought full of jet lag. A four hour time difference can have an effect on your work--by 5PM I was about to fall asleep at my desk.
But the last part of my vacation was fun. I spent a day in Bloomington, Indiana with my friend Campbell. I got rid of all of my books that I no longer wanted, and then went shopping like no tomorrow. Winter clearance was the name of the game, and I bought all sorts of clothes for work. I also spent quality time at bookstores, where I bought some fun books. That's me, I go sell books, then buy them again. I also got to meet a friend of Campbell's named Keegan, who was a hoot and a half. We embarrassed a bookstore clerk by making fun of the quality of most books in the gay and lesbian section of Borders. That was highly fun. (Gratefully, I was not hit on in Bloomington.)
Then I went to Parke County, Indiana for the rest of my trip. I had a truly Hoosier experience, because I got to go to a boys basketball game. Rockville, the school where my friend Elise is the athletic trainer, was playing cross county rivals Riverton Parke. Rockville won both games--they aren't a big team, but wer able to use the quickness and agility to take the ball away from Riverton's bigger team. It was fun. We did have to quash the fact that Elise and I were dating. (High school kids are so nosy.)
The last day I went down to Farmersburg, Indiana, where I got to stay with Bob and Jean, Elise's parents, and I got to have fun with the three collies--Nealy, Elise's smooth collie who had the same eye surgery I did in the same week; Daisy, a prissy tri-color rough who camped out with me when I went to bed; and Dale, the biggest rough I've ever seen, who has the best personality of the bunch. He's the epitome of a 'good boy'. I also got to go to Jasper and the Schnitzelbank, a fabulous German restaurant.
I really had a hard time leaving. Elise has always told me that I would move back to Indiana, and I always said that she was crazy. I think she's right now.
Then I had to fly back to Alaska. That was not fun. The plane I was supposed to take to Anchorage had mechanical problems, so I was shuffled onto Delta. So instead of getting back to Anchorage at 8PM through Minneapolis-St Paul, I got back at 10:30 through Salt Lake City. I spent way too much time on airplanes--from 2PM Central Time to 10 PM Alaska Time. I hate mechanical problems.
Life now is back to normal, though. I have my obligatory sore throat, and I have way too much work to do at the office. Life is life.
