Craziness
Nov. 25th we had our Winter Formal for Earth & Ocean Sciences:
- Had a way cool dress from Warehouse, UK...that NO ONE had!
- Food was WAY better than last year
- Got a ton of pictures, again, but only one of Daniel & I all night :(
- Got very little time with Daniel, since he was singing in the band again this year...and they played most of the night so we didn't even get one dance together
- Although most of my lab group showed up & although it was really great partying with them, the vibe wasn't as good as last year :(
- It was crazy snowing and we waited at least 45 mins for a bus in freezing weather with strappy sandals!!!
My quarter of a century has come & gone, although it was pretty eventful:
- There was a huge snowstorm on my birthday which shut the entire UBC campus down (i.e. absolutely NO power)
- As a result, I saw virtually no one on my birthday, and spent most of it working on my thesis :(
- Daniel managed to get back from returning band equipment in the afternoon, so we went out for coffee & for a nice dinner later at the Macaroni Grill...YUM!
- Got gifts from all his family back home...so cute :)
- Tuesday night, hung out with 20+ friends at Bimini's for drinks, which consisted of everyone grilling me with embarrassing questions and shot after shot of ridiculous combinations (LOL...had my first "muff dive")
Submitted my thesis to my committee on Friday...YAY!!!
Formal cocktail party this past Saturday...where everyone brought some type of alcohol & they provided munchies & juices, etc...it was a free-for-all, mix-your-own, with drink recipes plastered on the walls...cool, but man was I feeling the effects later :S
Am preparing my thesis defense as I write...also putting together a paper that I'm supposed to submit before Christmas so my supervisor will pay me for December. UGH.
Having people over for Christmas dinner this year, since I won't be travelling home. It'll be good to spend the holidays with Daniel (for the first time), and it'll be interesting cooking a giant turkey! Our oven is broken right now...I only hope they'll fix it by then!
Also looking for a new apartment, since Daniel & I hate our current situation & want a 2 bedroom place...not til Feb. 1st, but apartment hunting in Vancouver isn't always easy...
Good news! Finally got my job offer from Diavik...so, it's official! I start my first rotation on January 4th, 2007. I'm so excited.
