So apparently a little while ago Blizzard (AKA the company that runs World of Warcraft) decided it'd be a really great idea to force people to use their REAL NAMES when using their forums
I just...don't even know. It's such an utterly outrageous and privacy invasive tactic that I could only blink stupidly when I first heard it, laugh, and say "you're joking." There are definite boundaries when it comes to posting private information on the internet. Facebook is one thing because I use it to keep in touch with friends and I don't post any overly private information on there like address or phone number. I don't think it even has my current city anymore. But to force me to use my real name on a forum for an online game? It's like some sort of cosmic joke that really isn't that funny. I sure as hell don't give out my real name to ANYONE on the game save for the few that I have grown extremely close to over the years I've known them. When I first started playing I didn't even like people to know I was female and for a good three years I went around pretending I was male.
But anyway the big kicker here is giving people my name and friending someone on Facebook to allow them to see my information is by choice. Blizzard is forcing you to use your real name which means any loony in my area could more than likely easily find out my phone number, my facebook page, photos, god only knows. And if you think that it's not a big deal then you're either in denial or not living in reality. One of the mods posted his name on there claiming how safe it was and within five minutes people had found his phone number, his address, and personal photos of him and his family (Unfortunately I couldn't locate the exact area where he did so because he deleted it and there are over a thousand pages of people protesting this). I'm sorry but that scares the piss right out of me. It is nobodies business in World of Warcraft what my name is, who I truly am, what I look like, etc. It's the same way as using livejournal. If I give out my real name its by my choosing and you can bet if livejournal suddenly made some policy that you had to use your real name for your journal...well, that would be the last time I ever used this website.
Thankfully they listened to the over 50,000 complaints and reversed the policy. It also disgusts me that this guy is now running the company. Now I understand where some of their less than admirable policies have come from these last few years.

In less angry news I learned how to sew. A little. And by sew I mean I did six pieces then had to redo them all. It took over an hour and my eyes hurt. I really can't understand why anyone would like this as a hobby then again I bet if you use a sewing forum you aren't forced to use your real name either ha
My mom goes utterly apeshit over smart, ambitious guys, even going so far as to tell me not to break off my last serious relationship despite the fact I was no longer in love with him all because he was going to be a doctor. So bringing home the smartest kid in school would probably cause her to melt into a puddle on the floor. And my dad really doesn't care so long as I'm happy. Ishida ain't bad to look at either.
