Books, Books

Reading has ground to a halt this semester, and after this summer, when I read prolific-ly, this is depressing.  I suppose it comes from the fact that books available to me are in French, and this hampers one's ability to read them at pace and with rhythm.  I have purchased two French books though.  One is by Guy Gavriel Kay, Lions of al-Rassan.  ( Read more... )

reading!

Do you want to be pointed in the direction of e-books?

What are e-books?

Books that you read on your computer (or on a different sort of electronic gadget). So you don't have to carry paper books across the ocean with you.

That sounds cool. Are payments required? I wish I had a kindle...

Some of them are for money, but there are free ones, too. See here for example (these are mostly old-ish, though, since they're in the public domain). You could also try looking at publishers' websites. They sometimes have promotions wherein they offer free e-books.

More links, although I think these are the sort of e-books one pays for: Here is a list.

The link on that list to Baen, at least, has some free ones.

Cool thank you. I am in the process of investigating them, not sure which books to search for though which makes it harder to browse.

Could you recommend something to read? I can't find anything on the interface

I'm going to list some authors at you, since I haven't read anything like all of the books there. On the Baen site, try Asaro, Bujold, Lisle, Niven . . .

(I've read and enjoyed things by Asaro, Bujold, and Niven (I think), and I've heard Lisle recommended.)
