Ah, the delights of living in a country where healthcare is expensive even when you're employed. Had an odd blister on my gum again for the past few days - not all that odd, really, as this has become a fairly regular occurrence since I ceased having dental insurance. Usually it just goes away as the lymphocytes do their work. This time my lymph nodes swelled fairly dramatically, resulting in a garden-variety sore throat. Still no big deal.
Until last night on the way back to the hostel from helping a friend with a Burning Man art installation. Cleared my throat and turned to spit into the gutter, and thought something looked odd in the process. Paused to find better lighting (this after just having been thankful to escape the Tenderloin without being accosted by any of the beligerent intoxicated street people and assorted vagrants), spat again, and thought, "Yep, that was definitely pink." Napkin evidence confirmed bleeding. Delightful. Finally got that to stop by the time I'd walked all the way from Market to Broadway, mostly uphill - somehow, I always seem to be heading uphill *after* the bus I would want has stopped running.
So this *really* drove the lymph nodes wild. Had I insurance, I most assuredly would've been running to the ER in search of antibiotics. Instead, I got to drag my butt to the supermarket for DayQuil, which was still better than nothing. Doesn't really help the sore throat much, but at least my immune system seems to be doing its job.
Boy, I just can't wait for a job with insurance benefits. Hopefully it'll happen before I pull the trigger on a loaded chamber.
