WORD.

This is a stop sign not too far from my house, on the road that I take when I go to the gym.

The graffitti'd word appeared some time during the last week - possibly during the last five days.  (I admit it, I've been blowing off the gym, so I haven't gone down that road as regularly as I normally do.)

Here's my question, though:  who did it? Who goes to the trouble of obtaining spray paint and sneaking out to a back road and 'defacing' municipal property for the purpose of self-expression?

Not the guys in the BMW's and the soccer moms and grandmothers who use the gym, certainly,  It's not their style. Not their milieu.  Local residents, maybe?  The ones who live in the tidy town houses and always pick up after their dogs?  I doubt that, too.

My guess is, kids wrote this. Teenagers, probably - most likely, the ones that are still too young to vote.  Kids taking the opportunity to express themselves in a way that is practically a cultural norm.  If you've got a spray can and cover of darkness, you can say just about anything.

This is what they chose to say.

Word.

hope for the future
