Halloween Weekend in Scunthorpe

As promised here is an account of the Halloween weekend in Scunthorpe.

Saturday morning began with Shazia doing my undercut for me, which took longer than expected. We left the flat and went to Bowes Park train station. The plan was to get the train to Finsbury Park and then the underground to Victoria. Arriving at the station we found out that the next train would make us late for the coach.

Rushing back to Bounds Green we managed to get a Taxi from Scorpion Taxis, who promised we would get to Victoria in about 30 minutes. 4 detours to avoid traffic, an hour and 20 minutes later, myself having to be held back from decking the driver, and 10 minutes after the bus departed, we arrived at Victoria Station, our spends £20 lighter for the experience.

All was not lost though, after a 30 minute wait in a queue at the ticket office, we found out that there was another coach that went to Scunthorpe, that is strangely enough not advertised on the website. We decided we would pay the difference and get this coach, giving us 2 hours 30 minutes to mess about. So it was off to the nearest watering hole for a pub lunch and a drink, which turned into 1 Guinness and 2 double Bloody Mary’s for me, and 1 large medium wine and 2 double Bloody Mary’s for Shazia. We then went to Sainsbury’s where we bought a bottle of Smirnoff and 2 small bottles of coke each. Shazia got rid of some of the coke out of each bottle and replaced it with vodka, so it was more drinks on the coach.

8.30pm we arrive in Scunthorpe and make our way to the hotel, where we introduce ourselves and drop off our luggage, before exploring the local area. The bars were predominately Chav, so after Shazia so kindly pointed out it was like the Vampire and Pakistani syndrome we used to get on my old estate, it was decided we would be better of back in the hotel for the rest of the evening to share a bottle of wine we brought with us.

On getting back to the hotel, after stopping some guy beating up his girlfriend {details omitted for obvious reasons}, we found out there was a flaw in the bottle of wine plan, we didn’t have a cork screw and the landlord was out. So it was an early night and the end of day one.

Sunday we had breakfast then went to Sainsbury’s for essentials before returning to the Hotel and getting ready. We left the hotel about midday and made our way to the Lincoln Imp to meet up with Torsohorse and some of Shazia’s friends to have lunch before the gig.

Shazia was kitted out in her Torsohorse vest top, p.v.c. skirt, fishnets and thigh high boots {phoaaaarrrgggggh}

Myself in my Tosohorse t.shirt, black combats, New Rock boots and Leather trenchcoat.

We had lunch and chatted to some of the guys whilst Torsohorse and the other band, that I can’t recall or want to for that matter what they were called, soundchecked. We then watched the first band and had a laugh with some of the other fans and Torsohorse.

When they finished Shazia wanted to get some more smokes and we went to the shop near the pub. Shazia decided she would try and jump the car park wall catching the heal of her boot on the wall and going chin first into the pavement {awwwwww} resulting in bruised fingers and a bruised chin, that looks like she is the victim of domestic violence.

After she persuaded me she was ok it was back to the Imp and another drink. Torsohorse hit the stage and gave an excellent performance. Including a sneak preview of two of the tracks to appear on their forthcoming album. It was a crisp performance from all three members of the band, especially the drum solo by James in The Torture. The gig was everything that I expected it to be and the trip up to Scunthorpe was well worth it.

We had a drink or two with Adam, Steve and James and some of the fans. Then returned to the Hotel, where we relaxed for the rest of the evening.

Monday was our last day and we chilled in the hotel and drank the bottle of wine which we couldn’t open on Saturday night.

Returning home on the Tuesday which was our anniversary, where we had a nice quiet meal and few bottles of wine. We even managed to watch the Torsohorse Creation Part one DVD that the band has just released.

All in all it was a fun and eventful weekend as you all can see.
