Recently there is a change in the terms and conditions for those that would like to apply for Australian citizenship. Basically the aim is to eliminate those with only money and those with the skill. therefore the attention is turn to us the graduating international students. so today there were brochure given out at the union centre that say "Are you an international student? Australian Permanent Residency for $2500"
wow sound fantastic isnt it. the gov is looking for foreign talent and possibility i could enjoy the good of both countries. for $2500 you get a new citizenship, more jobs available to you, more education choices, and even u can do some business here urself by buying a property and renting it out. your kids would not be limited to NUS, NTU, SMU and get to pay the domestic fees for Uni like UQ, ANU, UNSW, etc etc. and when u are old... the slow paces of life here may well be somewhere good for retirement. oh and of coz the salary for fresh grad is much higher than those in sg. 45k a year as your starting pay. wouldnt u be tempted?
but i seriously think that holding another citizenship mean another set of responsibility. it have become another home you got to deal with. voting of gov. the current affairs of aus. it is not just another hotel. and the econ of the country does matters to u then. i know of a few people who obtain a number of citizenship, kind of wonder how they really feel. where exactly is their home?
it sure look tempting to get PR here but in the short term perspective i am going to really miss out things back in sg. first of all my friends and family are all back in sg. and it is after all a place i grew up. and what if i want to buy a flat in sg. i wont have the cpf to cover for it. although u may be paid more in aus, but the tax here is already really high. GST is 10% ok. and every single things other than cars are ex. imagine taking a bus from bedok to tampines. it will cost u like AUD$3. and when u open ur mouth and talk ard here. u just dun feel the singlishness. kind of unnaturally.
btw if i were to apply for this aus PR, i would have to at least work 1.5 to 2 years here first before i can obtain the PR. and when if i got my PR, i would most likely take up a masters course here. hey i would be paying the domestic fee then leh. so why not? in total that would be abt 3 to 4 years away from home... away from the faces that i know...
