my first uplifting blog!! (x-posted)
yes, thats right! this would be the first happy blog I know of that I posted! I went to city Hall tonight, and asked them for permision to start a neighborhood crime watch on our street, and for quarterly block parties that could be visited by kennedale police so that they could answer any of our questions or concerns, and tell us how to better protect ourselves... the mayor didn't even put it up for debate! he just put me into direct contact with the police chief, and granted everything I wanted!!!!!! so afterwards I talked to the chief of police, and I"m starting to organize the whole thing, he was incredibly nice, and supportive, and then the fire marshall came and gave me his card and said that they want to be present for our block parties!!!!! ooooohhhh myyyyy godddddd!!!!!! and then the mayor came out and shook my hand and wanted to talk to me because he said he really admired what I was doing!!!! I'm so excited I dont have any words for it!!! I even had people confront me after the meeting and tell me that I did a good job and they admired it :) but the thing that gets me straight in the heart, is the image of the father holding his infant daughter who signed the petition of support before I could even finish my sentence.... she might have a chance to grow up in a family oriented neighborhood, without her parents being worried about the drug dealing going on across the street.... I looked at her, and saw what I lost, and want for her what I want for my own. This mission has so much deep meaning for me, I just don't know where to start. I can say, that this is the first battle, and we won. I will continue to fight for our children no matter what, and I have the support now to do so. for once this month, I'm looking forward to what tomorrow brings :)
