Yuletide fic 2016: Knife of Hearts (Dishonored)

Jan 04, 2017 03:02

Phew! Made it once again by the skin of my teeth! I love Dishonored, but I truly believed this time I had bitten more than I could chew. Writing anything from Daud's perspective was really, really daunting. Corvo I could have done in a heartbeat, and the Outsider would have been challenging and fascinating, but Daud? I simply hadn't given him enough thought. Cue some frantic replaying and reading through the entire wiki until I finally was in a place where I could begin. I also fell even more desperately in love with the game and the setting. And succumbed to the urge to write poetry. Again.

Knife of Hearts (link to AO3)
Fandom: Dishonored (game)
Words: 3430
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Relationships: Strongly implied Daud/The Outsider & Corvo Attano/Jessamine Kaldwin
Additional tags: Canonical Character Death, Pastiche, Poems, Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Daud's POV, Daud picks up the Heart

Summary:
The deadliest assassin in Dunwall finds himself in possession of a heart - and not just any old heart. Strange dreams and visions begin to haunt Daud. As reality frays around him, memories and secrets begin to creep in.

There is a choice to make. There always is.

Or: The shippiest gen fic that ever shipped, consisting of diary entries, audiograph recordings, poems and dreams dreamed in the beautiful town of Dunwall during the rat plague. There are some glimpses to Daud's past and childhood. And also my version of the Drunken Whaler, which is obviously the most important thing here.
