my newest fandom

This is for all y'all who don't know about my newest fandom or can't understand why in the heck I'm into my latest fandom. For those of you who understand my fandom, you can read this and nod in agreement with a smile on your face. :p This fandom that I speak of is KPop; specifically the group SS501. :D This is for my friend, xxethereal. A fabulous pimp post. I'll post a different entry for my art later, so don't look for it here. This one's artless.

From left to right: Jung Min, Baby Hyung Joon, Young Saeng, Kyu Jong, and Leader Hyun Joong
SS501 stands for Superstars; the 5 members as 1 for all eternity(represented by the 0). It's pronounced Double S Five Oh One. The members consist of:
Kim Hyun Joong (affectionately called Leader by fans; Dog and sometimes Ox because of his soft eyes)
Heo Young Saeng (nicknamed Otter because of his face and Shy Prince because of his personality; also just simply Saengi)
Kim Kyu Jong (with no current nickname, though Jung min nicknamed him Eagle it hasn't stuck, and he goes by just Kyu sometimes)
Park Jung Min (nicknamed Horse by the members because of his enamorment with carrots, the shape of his face, and long legs)
Kim Hyung Joon (nicknamed Baby by fans because he's the youngest and his name is almost exactly like that of Leader's)

These guys are amazing. Not only can they dance, sing, and be just plain mazing, they're really sweet, funny, cute, and down to earth. The gifts they love receiving from fans the best are letters. They've been known to get a bunch of gifts but only take the letters from the bunch and leave the rest. Even though they're performers and are fierce and sexy on stage, in real life they are rather conservative in many ways. Leader Kim Hyun Joong was in a variety show called We got Married where he had to act/pretend for the show to be married to another pop singer name Hwangbo. Even though he became extrememly close friends with her and they acted like husband and wife, they mostly obstained from what they call 'skinship'. The most they did was hold hands on rare occasions and exchange a kiss on the cheek once or twice; once for a photoshoot. He also hated when she would wear revealing clothing and would make her go and change.

They've been in a number of variety shows, all of which show their cute personalities. I've laid them out from oldest to youngest.

Leader Hyun Joong is 4D, living in his own little world. He is also laid back, fairly calm, a big jokester who likes making people laugh, and overall low key. He is truly the leader of the group, making sure that everyone is taken care of and taking the lead when it comes to interviews and such. He is also extremely competetive, and will do anything to win. He is also a VERY hard sleeper, as is shown in one of the variety shows they were on. He has 'adult phobia', which he willingly admits, and he's terribly afriad of bugs. His main talent besides singing is dancing.

Young Saeng is very shy offstage, and often doesn't reveal his cute personality unless there's just his friends around. He does funny impressions, is also more low key, but likes playing around with the bandmates. He's extremely particular about his look, and hates when he's caught on film with his hair out of whack. He's known for his smile, and has even dubbed it, "World's Best Smile". He's also good with kids. All of the SS501 members like kids and want their own families someday, but children seem to like Young Saeng. Saengi was the last of the members to join, and was previously employed by a different agency, which he left right before joining SS501.

Kyu Jong is a sweet country boy who worked very hard to get into the boy band after many times failing auditions for other groups. He is kind to everyone, even when they're not kind to him. His sweet heart is revealed in his words and actions. Kyu hates seeing people hurt or left out. He likes dancing and doing magic tricks, and is easy going. He does, however, have his silly side too. His innocence sets him apart from the other band members. He calls himself the center, because he is good at ending arguments and keeping everyone calm. Sometimes he is teased for his country accent.

Jung Min is an outgoing, outspoken, and the more violent member of the group. He is very dramatic and wanted originally to be an actor. He enjoys teasing and mildly tormenting the other members, especially Baby Joon. He always has something to say, and is not afraid to be silly no matter where he is. His self-proclaimed 'Sexy Charisma' is very fitting for him, and he enjoys showing it off. Truly, even though he puts on a more selfish impression to the public, he loves his band members and is kind-hearted. He just has an interesting way of showing it. One of his talents is tap dancing.

Baby Hyung Joon is the youngest member, both in age and in actions. He loves having a good time, and enjoys making people laugh. Though he is mostly all smiles, he tends to be hurt more easily, and has cried a couple of times at the band's pranks that he thought were really hurtful acts against him before he found out they were only teasing. He was the first to be chosen for the group, and loves song-writing as well as singing. He is also the rapper of the group, sometimes joined Leader. He loves goofing around with the other members and doesn't worry about his image as the baby of the group. He is also a scardy-cat, and can't take being spooked at ALL. He has a younger brother in the KPop group U-Kiss and they wrote the song Want It, for the latest SS501, album together. Baby also wrote the song I Am and recorded it solo for the same album.

The members are like brothers, and they live together much of the time. Besides being on variety shows, Kyu, Jung Min, and now Baby have been DJs for radio stations. Leader acted in a Korean drama called Boys Over Flowers this 2009, which was a huge hit. Jung Min was in one episode of a drama called Elephant and was also recently the role of Danny in the musical production of Grease. Kyu was in a short drama that was filmed in the style of a documentary called "Break".

While Jung Min was in "Grease" and Leader was filming for Boys Over Flowers, the other three band members formed a subunit called Triple S by their fans. Although they considered taking the name professionally, they decided against it because they still considered the band all 5 members even though two were missing. During this time they released an album and music video for their hit U R Man. They are now all back together and are going to be releaseing a new album soon. The guys have not only released KPop albums and singles, but JPop ones too. They have a large fanbase in Japan, and actually became big there despite many amazing Japanese artists and have several times made it on the Oricon charts.

I'm including the Quainte501 youtube profile because they give English subs for TONS of SS501 videos. If you ever wanted to watch anything about them, this is the place to look first. They have lots of good stuff, including music videos, the variety shows, interviews, performances, and many other random things about the boys.

I stumbled upon this group by pure accident. I ended up watching their music videos, after seeing their music video Deja Vu, and all of We Got Married and fell in love with the group due to their personalities. This genre is so unique, and I couldn't believe that I'd never heard of it before! If you've never checked these guys out, take the time to do so. It's so worth it, and they're truly amazing boys. =]

Here's the music vid Deja Vu. Maybe you'll see why I was attracted to them in the first place. ;)

Haha, so my quick thoughts on this when I first saw it.
1st thought: "WOW!!! They can DANCE!!!" I'd never seen a music vid from the USA where the singers actually danced in the vid. They usually just stand on stage or whereever and try to look passionate and cool about the song. These guys did it and they danced like no tomorrow. Wow.
2nd thought: "WOW! They're HANDSOME!" I've never been attracted to Asians before. Nothing against them, I just never was. Now that's changed. :D The one I thought was the hottest was Jung min in this vid, but after researching, I'm completely Kyu biased.
3rd thought: "Where the heck has this been all my life?" I couldn't understand why I'd never heard of this before. I think that in America I have lived a fairly sheltered life from celebrities, acting, and music outside of our own and maybe some European stuff. What a shame.
4th thought: "Now I have to find out what they said." :D This was harder to do, but I eventually found a great site outside of youtube for the rest of their songs that gave not only the English translation, but also the Romanization (Korean words in how they would be pronounced in the English alphabet).

Another super cute music video is Lucky Days. This song is one of the Japanese ones.

This fandom has taken me more effort to get into. It's not like I can google the group and find tons of stuff on them. Another thing that makes it harder is that many of the fan sites are not in English. =[ However!!! I'm getting very good at guessing what all of the links are when I go to the sites. I can find the galleries pretty well now. ;] I hope you can all understand now why I'm so into this fandom! And that even if y'all don't get into it, that you can at least understand what I'm talking about when I post my graphics and fangirly stuff on them. :D Thanks for taking the time to read this, and I hope that you can join the fandom too!!!
