Fall Back
The basic nature of every human alive
Is based around the instinct to survive
And the reason people are so unique and diverse
Can be found in the things life chose to teach first
The difference between someone independent like you
And someone as willing to help as me
Is that I used other people to pull me through
When relying on others, for you, was an impossibility
Every time you tried to step out on a limb,
And opened your heart and soul to a “friend”
Hoping they’d make sense of the contortion within
things just went awry again and again and again
So you “learned“ through the errors of many trials -
which never yielded anything worthy of smiles -
That you erred when you looked to others for support
So alone you insist to be when you hold the fort
As of yet, confidence and confidants have been lacking
But I have only just now been entered in the equation
And by my hand your lonely habits can be sent packing
Because its in others that you will find your salvation
So I entreat thee,
Please keep an open mind and just listen to me.
I want you to know that where ever in life you go
I will be standing behind you like a solid shadow
When life gets you down and things seem so tough
Just close your eyes and fall back
Because once you trust me enough
I will catch you, and that is no possibility - it is only a fact
And when the days become dark, almost like night
Just trust in me, and fall back
I will shelter you when fate seems to be on the attack
And keep you safe until everything is all right
And when the days become gray and life seems dull
Just trust in me,

Until the situation is back in your control
And if there comes a day so sad
That you wish to forget all the memories you’ve ever had

And I will remind you of life’s true beauty
And if there comes to be a day
When you just want to run away

As I teach what it means to fly and how to spread your wings

When you say don’t even stick around
I will just hide in plain sight from you

As a true blue friend sticks through to the end
Watching and waiting, just in case
