Since I've been thinking about canon slash ....

As I have extensively complained about, episodes of "Brothers and Sisters" have been butchered before they made it to our local airwaves, to protect the sensitivities of viewers as they pertain to same-sex relationships. It wasn't just the free-to-air network, but even cable channel StarWorld Asia chickened out and cut ALL the Kevin & Scotty proposal and wedding scenes. I think the final episode lasted all of 30 minutes after the excision of "questionable content".

I just realised that it's been a year since we saw B&S on either StarWorld or Channel 5. Have they just decided to drop the show entirely? It is not simply not worth all the creative censorship they have to do to keep the episodes coherent? Scotty actually hardly appeared in S3, so the censors would not need to wield the black tape all that much. Thankfully, we have the internet to keep up with the main story lines, but it was nice to watch B&S on a nice large-screen TV, even if poor Luke McFarlane had most of his scenes cut out.

And just a passing thought on the latest gay couple sensation in the US, Kish on One Life to Live. I have followed this story only intermittently via YouTube, so I could be talking out of my ass here. But I get the distinct impression that the Kish chemistry has actually regressed since they got together or reconciled, or whatever the right word is. Earlier in the story line, when it was all unrequited-but-not-really feelings, jealous glances and repressed emotions, there was a tension between the characters that felt like a spark about to go off. Then the barriers came down, there was a mutual declaration of love, and ... well, no spark. From my perspective at least, there is a flatness in the way that the recent Kish scenes play out. The writing and acting are pretty good, so I can only put it down to faltering on-screen chemistry. Kyle seems almost too relaxed about this whole thing, while Oliver's nerves and trepidation have been cute but almost over the top. On paper, the collision between Kyle's laid-back approach and Oliver's high-strung anxiety should set off fireworks. But, I don't know, I am just getting 'too cool' from Kyle and 'need to chill out' from Oliver and nothing from Kish as a pair.

The writing on ATWT for Luke and Noah is laughably bad compared to what I have seen on OLTL. But Luke and Noah (or the actors) have real chemistry, so much so that the connection between them always feels palpable even when they are spouting ridiculous dialogue and acting OOC. I'm not getting that from Kish. Everyone and his mother are falling over themselves about the Kish phenomenon, and I don't really get it.
