Wow. I've never done this before. It may be a rather small thing to some, but for me...
The tickets for the world simulcast cinema premiere of The Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special went on sale at 9 am EST yesterday. I watched the time carefully at work yesterday, went online exactly at that time, and bought 3 tickets for the only showing at the only participating cinema in my area. No fuss, no muss, and with a couple of friends, I'll be joining thousands around the world for arguably the biggest event (in scale, at any rate) in the Who Fandom ever on Saturday, November 23 at 12:50 (well, that's the posted time for the screening. Whether there will be trailers first... I have no idea). The showing is already sold out, and two of the three backup showings on the following Monday (so, not part of the Simulcast) are also sold out. The third will probably be sold out soon, I'm guessing. Meanwhile, at home, my PVR will be busily recording the TV version of the Simulcast.
So, she who usually misses getting tickets for events like these actually managed to pull it off this time. My goodness... maybe I ought to buy a lottery ticket...
I missed seeing The Fellowship of the Ring by three months when it came out in 2001 because it wasn't released in Japan until the beginning of March 2002. And that was a huge event for me. However, this time, I will be a happy little fangirl, gleefully soaking up all the Wholishness I can, in one of the cushiest cinemas I know and enjoying the reactions from the audience along with mine, for we will all be seeing it for the first time together. Strangers all united by our love for all things Who.
And.....David Tennant on the big screen, in all his Ten-ish glory. Um... in 3D Ten-ish glory. Eeeeeee!
