If asked, Rodney will admit that the Nomex survival-suit makes sense (and the memory cloth is a brilliant excuse for having a cape). It makes sense and looks pretty cool, and Rodney’s maybe just a little bit in love with Lucius Fox (not that he’d ever admit that to anyone, ever, John), and Batman’s all about being ( Read more... )

So I totally just began rereading The Killing Joke the other day, and of course its been simmering in my mind (because it's crazy/awesome). There must be crazy brain transfers and such going on, though, because here are the burblings of my brain, vague notions of how taut our hero's lifeline is stretched, and how close those terribly innocuous scissors sit. But you've made them real, and pretty, and of course Rodney, deep deep down, would be the one to say it.

In case you don't know Killing Joke (i.e. go read it NOW):

(how do you insert hyperlinkies into these things?)

I've heard about The Killing Joke, although I've never read it (my comic book reading is limited to what our public library has). My version of Batman is based pretty exclusively on the DCAU and the Nolan movies--the juxtaposition of which is what prompted this drabble. In the one you've got Batman all armored up and driving a tank; in the other, every indication is that his costume is just fabric, a second, all-too-easily-damaged skin.

And then Rodney somehow wound up in the middle of it, and I think the whole thing is actually a subtle commentary on John, but I'm not sure.

just replace [ and ] with < and >

...um, don't click on the link. It goes to a junk site because I wasn't expecting it to be a working link.

I see. Considering that I actually took a class about html, I should really remember more of it than I do...especially since my dad taught it. *is ashamed*

Certainly it's braver to put yourself out there when you know you can break. I like the thought that Rodney would think these things but never admit to them aloud.
