About a year and a half-two years ago, there was a triple murder that took place just east of where we live. Three people, two of them former employees, attempted to rob the Outback Steakhouse that's in Texarkana, Tx. There were three people left in the store when this took place. Two employees (one of them a server that was pregnant), and the store manager (who's wife just had a baby and they just moved from Longview, Tx to this area). We had dinner there previously, and had a chance to sit down and talk with the manager personally. We were considering me working there, since I have waited tables in the past and thought it would be a great place to work. The manager strongly encouraged me to consider applying since he had several vacancies to fill. Hubby and I went home to talk about it, but I never did go back to fill an application out.
The three people that were attempting to rob the restaurant were no older than 25. They entered the store with guns blazing. Without regard to life, they killed all three people. The baby that was still in utero died as well.
The murders rocked the area like nothing has ever done before. The whole town, as well as those that surround Texarkana, were so very sad at the loss of life that this senseless act caused. Those in Longview also grieved for the loss of a great man who was very family oriented and one that was truly missed in life and spirit.
Not long after the murders took place, a special bill was passed by the Texas state legislature that said a child of 'x' amount of months in utero was considered a living being and that a person could be found guilty of murder if a baby died while the mother was pregnant at the time the murder took place. This poor woman and her baby didn't qualify since the murders at the Outback took place before the bill was passed into law.
The first of the three suspects is now in court for the crimes he committed. It was reported last night that the family of the suspect that took the gun to the restaurant knew that he was planning on robbing the restaurant. They KNEW something was going to happen, and did absolutely freaking NOTHING about it. This individual has stated in court that he didn't know that the other two were going to do what they did, and that he shouldn't be found responsible for their actions.
It makes me sick that the family knew this information and just sat on their butts and did nothing. Three (four counting the baby) innocent people were murdered in cold blood because of greed and the burning desire to 'get back' at the manager for terminating their employment. These individuals are sick and are doing everything possible to not be blamed for what they did. This area hasn't ever had anything like this happen before, at least as far as I know. I can't get out of my mind the wife and little ones of the manager that were left behind. They were very little when this happened. No one asked for this to take place. I hope that these people will get what justice deems fit for what they did. I ache that the feelings from before are being drudged right back up again. But, if these people were let go, that would be more of a crime than anything else. I hope and pray that justice will be swift and appropriate for what they did.
