I'm up earlier than my two trip mates. . .so for the few people that haven't heard me say it a million times on Twitter:
Chikamatsu is wonderful.
Honestly I was initially disappointed that Miwacchi's Bow was going to be a nihonmono. They're nearly impossible for me to follow with my poor grasp of Japanese. But I told myself I would try my hardest to get to whatever this show might be if she got the lead.
And luckily this nihonmono turned out to be a beautifully staged production where every person on stage was incredible. Maybe I just needed to see this type of play live to gain an appreciation for it-but maybe it was that this show was put together so well. I may not have understood everything that was happening on stage, but I didn't need to.
Basically what I'm saying is that if you have a chance to see this show (which is a difficult task, I know-unless you'll be in Tokyo in a few weeks or can get your hands on a Sky Stage copy you won't ever see it), take that chance. You won't be disappointed.
I am so happy and proud to be Miwacchi's fan. She was perfect.
I will write more about Chikamatsu and Brilliant Dreams when I get back home, I promise. I already have a lot of my Brilliant Dreams thoughts typed out. I knew if I didn't write that down somewhat quickly my Chikamatsu feelings would push all memories of that show out of my brain.
