And so my ability to keep this thing updated dwindles, even though my desire to write my thoughts down doesn't. It's just that my thoughts are jotted down in 140-character bites throughout the day, so my need to make long posts here isn't as big as it used to be. I keep saying I'm going to make more of an effort here, but I never do. I'm not leaving LJ but between work, sewing, and social things I doubt I'll ever post here the way I used to.
Anyways! A few quick things of note:
1) PUPPIES!
Mom called me last Saturday and said, "I found cute puppies in the paper. Want to take me to see them?" Umm, YES OF COURSE. RUNNING OUT OF THE HOUSE NOW. There were 7 puppies left and Mom took 2 home. The little boy on the left is named Hardy and the girl on the right is Holly. They are 7 weeks old now (6 weeks in those photos) and they're 3/4 pitbull and 1/4 German shepherd.
They are such sweet little puppies - very affectionate. Hardy is the more laid-back of the two but he's much bigger than his rambunctious sister so he can hold his own in a scuffle XD. Ahhh, I'm happy to have my own place but it's hard not spending every second of my free time at Mom and Dad's place to play with the new babies.
2) Cosplay and Cons
Fannatiku Fest is happening. . .right now. LOL. I wish I were there but I made the decision to only go one day because of my work situation. So I'll be leaving balls early tomorrow morning with a few other people. I'm wearing Mami and provided I'm not a lazy bum today one of my dolls will be dressed up as Kyubey XD. I'm looking forward to judging the cosplay contest for the. . .6th year in a row? WOW! Fannatiku Fest is OLD!
After that I will be in full Fanime costumes mode. I'm making 3 new costumes because apparently I don't already have plenty of costumes in my closet to wear ^^;. I think you guys already know about Elisabeth from Sound Horizon and Jack from Ernest in Love, but the third is one I just added a few weeks ago:
A few friends were organizing a Shunya Yamashita cosplay group so I took a flip through an artbook of his and found this lovely lady named Hyougo Asai. Right up my alley, right? I colored her based on fabric I already had lying around, so I can use this design as an excuse to use up some of my ridiculous fabric stash. All I had to pick up was the buttons and the wig. New costume for less than $25? HELL YEAH! Plus I'll used Squall's pants so all I have to make is the jacket, spats and belt. I'm sure I can churn that out in one weekend.
I'll be flying into SJC on Thursday evening this year, so for once I'll be at the con all day Friday! Now, nothing is set in stone yet but it looks like Squall will be worn sometime on Friday, Hyougo Asai will be worn sometime on Saturday, and Jack will maaaaybe be worn on Sunday? I dunno, I'm hoping to do either Jack or Elisabeth for the Masquerade but leaning towards Jack.
So that leaves me with a decision to make about Sound Horizon. What day is best for everyone to wear those outfits? Right now our group seems to be shrinking - I believe we have Elisabeth, Therese, the Evil Queen, Bluebeard's wife and Snow White. *sigh* I guess the big group is for Anime Vegas but I wanted a big one at Fanime too. Oh well.
I'm trying to get my costumes done super early this year - by May 6th, hopefully. It's doable as long as I'm very disciplined. Why do they need to be done that early when the con doesn't start until May 25th? Because. . .
3) I'M GOING TO JAPAN!!!
Guys. GUYS. It's finally happening - I'll be in the Osaka area from May 8th to May 14th. Sure, it's shorter than I would have liked, but there's only so much I can afford and be able to do Fanime in the same month. So 6 days it is. And what a 6 days it will be! Luckily I'm going with someone who knows a bit of the language. I want to see Tenshi no Sato (YAY Volks Motherland! Will have to bring Jun along XD) and some general sights in the area, but you all know why I'm making such an effort to go at this particular time.
Chikamatsu.
I can't believe I'll get to see Chikamatsu live. I feel like the luckiest fan alive. I just hope I don't end up bawling through the entire performance, because watching through a blur of tears wouldn't make for a good memory. And just look at that cast list. NATORI REI! EEEE!!! And Hacchi-san apparently couldn't let Hanagumi go that quickly :D. Mitsuru is my second favorite Hana lady so I'm super happy she's in this show, and Ootori Mayu is also adorable. Last but not least, this will be Mii-chan's first Hanagumi show. Ohhh, there will be lots of people to watch if I can take my eyes off Miwacchi for two seconds.
Luckily Brilliant Dreams/Climax is playing in the Grand Theatre at the same time. I'm bummed I can't see both Tsukigumi and Hanagumi on this trip, but the next best thing is to see the last show of someone who was a beloved part of Tsukigumi for many years. Yuuhi is one of the people that made me love Tsuki as a new fan. I haven't followed her as much in Soragumi (I only have the energy for two troupes ^^;) but that's ok. This will be Micchan's last Soragumi show before she makes her way into Senka, so I'm doubly glad to see it. And the HATSUBUTAI! OMG I'm always going to adore the 98th class because of this :).
I'm so sorry for the fangirly babbling up there, but I don't really know how to put my excitement about this trip into coherent words just yet. I'm not sure I will ever be able to. I'll just have to bring my camera and sketchbook along and let pictures do the talking for me.
EDIT: OH I forgot one other thing of extreme amusement. A few weekends ago, I made
a lolita dress based on the creeper enemy from Minecraft. Someone posted it on Tumblr, and
I guess people like it based on all those notes O_O.
