Mixed Freakishness

When one of my favourite authors becomes suddenly and outrageously popular, I have some seriously mixed emotions about it. On the one hand, it's wonderful that these people are finally getting the recognition they deserve, and if they're earning enough money from their books to quit their day jobs, odds are good I'll be getting more fictional goodness out of the deal. Which can only be a good thing, right? And hey, their backlists start getting republished, making it far easier to glom their earlier, hard to find works.

Except... when authors get freakishly popular, they start coming out with hardcover books. And with my OCD, I just can't have a series half in mass market paperback and half in hardcover. Then it looks all uneven! But if I wait for the paperback, that means I have to wait an extra year to read the thing. It's a crazy dilemma.

Also? I sometimes get a little, uh, possessive of my authors. They're mine. I mean, I want them to do well and I want other people to enjoy their books, but when they become a phenomenon, it's hard not to think "but... I loved you before, and now I just look like someone who jumped on the bandwagon after you made it big."

Anyone else get these mixed emotions, or am I just a freak? Or, uh, is the answer "yes" to both those questions, seeing how they're not exactly mutually exclusive...
