Steampunk rules, for me! It takes you back to the early days of science fiction, really. My current favourite is Michael Pryor's Laws Of Magic series, finished in the last year or so. The hero is like Miles Vorkosigan in Edwardian England and the stories are exciting and funny. Characters go to sleight-of-hand shows and the hero complains that one such is just ordinary magic and cheating.

Ever seen some of Jim Hines's covers? No wonder he's annoyed, poor man!
