Oh, Oxford Comma, how we loved you

It seems the recent University of Oxford Writing and Style Guide has decided to chuck the Oxford Comma.

As a general rule, do not use the serial/Oxford comma: so write ‘a, b and c’ not ‘a, b, and c’. But when a comma would assist in the meaning of the sentence or helps to resolve ambiguity, it can be used - especially where one of the items in the list is already joined by ‘and’:

They had a choice between croissants, bacon and eggs, and muesli.

My thoughts on the subject? Well, I think this button about covers it. I'm very fond of the Oxford comma! It just makes the whole sentence look tidier, and occasionally can change the entire meaning of the sentence. Big job for such a little bit of punctuation, but he never complains. Not even when he's being phased out by the University of Oxford. Not cool.

So if y'all don't mind, I'm just going to be over here listening to some Vampire Weekend and muttering "I care about the Oxford Comma..."
