I may have mentioned that I rather enjoy video games. One might say I'm avid about them. Some of my fondest bonding moments with my dad are about us playing Ultima IV on the old Apple IIe computer, my brother, my dad, and myself.
As I also may have mentioned, I purchased a Nintendo Wii recently. One of the points that sold me on it was their "virtual console". This is where they take old school games from their previous systems (the NES, SNES, and N64 systems), and allow you to download them to the internal memory of the Wii. When I heard about that, I was just tickled pink, because I could play some of my favorite games again.
There are two games (well, three really) that rank in my all time top 5 games. Zelda (and Zelda II) and Metroid. I can't even count the number of hours I spent on those two games. So, I get the Wii hooked up and configured, get on the virtual console, download all the Zeldas they have available, then look for Metroid....
...and there's nothing.
Needless to say, I was stunned. Metroid is one of Nintendo's biggest franchises. Mario, Zelda, Metroid are their big three. Yup, 4 various games of Mario. Yup, 4 various games of Zelda. Nope, not a single, solitary Metroid game on virtual console.
Why do I grouse and bitch about all this? Because they're releasing Metroid on Monday. They've been holding back as a marketing ploy for the release of the new Metroid Prime 3: Corruption game, due out later this month. This past week, they released in games movies of the new MP3:C game. On Monday, they release the original Metroid game (oh yeah baby!). A week later, they release Super Metroid (originally for the Super NES, which I never got to play).
Dave's a very happy geek.
