So wait, for finishing ToAU all you get is a level 50 ring that sucks outside of Assault, a banner for your Mog House and a head piece with no stats?

yeah =P same for so many drops from the NMs in the new areas that have pretty useless stats, and the First Lieutenant pieces you can buy with IS points are also terrible (a lvl75 rare ex belt with enchantment: "remove food"?...)
Although the assault ring can be useful if you do things like the 100floors Nyzul assaults, I think that's what they were thinking with those.

I am sure you remember how this game works, they don't really add new gear that trumps old one, to maintain balance or whatever they just add marginal items or shuffled stats between pieces, it's just the way this game is =P
Even the newer salvage gear isn't all that much better than the god set, just like a Shura+1 piece isn't all that much better than the normal version in terms of pure stats (aside for the all-important whitebox), just a point or two of a stat or another.

What are your reasons for staying with it now?

Not much, but I don't play a lot either, which is how I want it ( ... )

I don't know if the ring sucks -that- bad. It's on par with Jaeger's ring, which is perfectly fine for most TP situations in place of a sniper's ring.

The RNG ring is really nice actually, and I'm torn on which one I want.

But hey, it's not like we're talking CoP here. This expansion was pretty weak in the difficulty department, and people are crying out the rewards?

People demand an item with +100 to every stat for logging in these days.

I quit nearly a year ago now, I'm not really complaining about the rewards. Genome's LJ is one of the few FFXI related ones I still read and I just thought it was odd that the final reward of doing an entire set of missions spanning many months was a poor ring and, essentially, the loss of two precious inventory spaces. Considering how exceptional Rajas, Tamas and Sattva were, I'd have thought they would've learned by now the level of rewards people desire and expect.

Still, as you say, the missions were easy as far as I can remember and I'm sure they didn't get a whole lot harder since I departed. The CoP missions were challenging on a level FFXI had never seen before (and likely won't again judging by them getting nerfed into oblivion) so I guess the reward here is appropriate.
