One time, Junsu went to a fortune-teller just for fun.
Junsu had time to kill that day as he was waiting for his girlfriend to finish with work, when he passed by a fortune-teller’s stand that told him to go right near the café where he went often. There was a very eye-catching yellow sticker that read: For free this week only!
Although he had never seen that sign there before and was surprised he didn't, the yellow sticker got the best of him.
He was led to the back of the coffee shop; right beside the dumpster was a small tent with a sign at the entrance: The Grand Fortune-teller.
His head tilted, brows scrunched, and a lopsided smile stretched on his face in amusement. This fortune-teller was anything but grand, which that he knew for sure. He walked closer to it anyway, knocking at the thin material of the tent. “Anybody home?” He said, before sticking his head inside.
There was a fairly old woman behind a wooden table wearing a turban that looked very genie like. It seemed as she had been waiting for him with her eyes rested until he came inside.
“I have been waiting for you,” Her eyes opened and looked up at the intruder, “Junsu-sshi.”
Goosebumps, Junsu then had them.
She smiled at him, wickedly in Junsu’s perspective. “Sit,” She gestured at the folding chair in front of him.
“Uh…sure,” He chuckled, feeling less uncomfortable as he took a seat.
The seer closed her eyes once more then extended her arms, revealing very long and wide sleeves at her side and took a deep breath.
Junsu leaned back a little.
She smiled again, “You’re doing pretty good for yourself right now, aren’t you, Junsu-sshi?” Then opened her eyes, joined her hands together and pulled out a deck of tarot cards from her left sleeve.
“Uh, yeah…I think so.”
“Is there something you’d like to know?” She asked as she began shuffling her cards.
Junsu thought for a second then shrugged with a meaningless pout, “No…not really. Is there anything I should be worried about?”
The fortune-teller smiled with her eyes, “Let’s see, shall we?” She drew the first card, facing it down on the table then drew another, setting it beside the first, and then another setting it beside the second.
She unveiled the first card, her right hand hovering over it while looking at Junsu as if she was trying to read him.
Junsu just blinked at her, smiling a little awkwardly.
“You and your girlfriend are in good terms. I can feel the affection you have for each other is strong.”
Junsu smiled, comfortably as his girlfriend came to mind. “Yeah-actually, I was thinking of-“
“Popping the question?” The psychic finished his sentence for him. She sighed, tilting her head, “I’m not certain going into the next phase that early will be wise, Junsu-sshi.”
The next phase…would be marriage, Junsu thought.
“Oh,” Junsu leaned back against his seat, “I see.” He was actually going to ask his girlfriend to move in with him, but what the fortune-teller said was a pretty good advice anyway.
She took another deep breath before facing the next card upright. The old woman smiled, “If you continue to walk on the same path, you will marry her and she will bear two children.”
Junsu smiled at the thought of that.
The fortune teller flipped the last card, “But if you take another direction, a dark secret from the past that was once lost will reveal itself again.”
“What secret?” Junsu asked curiously, not that he’d take anything she just said to heart, but it was exciting.
“If you don’t know it, then who will?” The woman chuckled, taking her three cards and put them back under her sleeve.
“Right,” Junsu scratched the side of his head.
“That will be the end of your free reading unless you’d like another one for twenty-five dollars,” She smiled, holding her hands together.
He stood up with a smile mirroring her, “Thanks, but no thanks,” With a bow and left the tiny tent.
Junsu looked at his watch and was surprised at how time flew. “Oh crap,” he hissed before running to meet his girlfriend.
--
He was at least twenty minutes late when he got to the front of his girlfriend’s work.
She was the petite figure standing to the left of the entrance door, greeting the costumers who entered and left with a sweet smile despite her growing bitterness toward her late boyfriend.
Junsu saw her pouting, looking around for him as he approached behind her.
She huffed and put her hands on her hips, “When is that idiot going to get here…”
He slipped his arm around her, “Hey,” smiling and kissed her cheek, “Sorry I’m late. Forgive me?”
She elbowed then frowned at him, “Feed me first, then I’ll see if I’m in a good enough mood to forgive your butt.”
Junsu chuckled, “Aish, come on~” He pleaded, shaking her a little.
“No! You’re late!” Taeyeon stood her ground, looking away just in case he pulled an adorable pout.
“At least give me a kiss,” Junsu puckered his lips.
“No.”
“Then I guess we’re going to a food stand instead of your favorite restaurant…”
She whined and turned around, “Fine, fine! Just one, alright?” She showed him one finger before leaning forward to press her lips against Junsu’s puckered ones.
Her boyfriend circled his arms around her sneakily, smiling against her lips and just when she was about to pull away he pulled her back for a longer kiss that made her melt a little inside.
Taeyeon sighed into it and wrapped her arms around his neck, parting her lips for him.
Then a flying stale bagel thumped Junsu on the head, “Yah! Stop engaging in illicit activities in front of bakery!” one of Taeyeon’s older sisters threw another bagel at her, “Shoo!”
The couple laughed and was shooed away to their date destination.
And Junsu’s trip to the grand fortune-teller was forgotten.
--
In little over a year, Junsu popped the question and they went to Jeju Island for their honeymoon.
“Yeobo,” She chuckled, still getting use to it.
“Yes, jagiya?” Junsu smiled at his newly wedded wife.
Taeyeon shifted and laid her head on his bare chest, an arm wrapping around him in bed, “Tell me your darkest secret,” She whispered and looked up at him.
Junsu gave her a funny look and they both laughed.
“Yah,” She swatted him playfully. “Why, you have so much secrets that you can’t decide on which one to tell me?” She raised a semi-suspicious eyebrow, “Come on, tell me~” She pressed a kiss to his cheek.
Taeyeon sat up and put on her lecture face, “I’m your wife now; I should know everything and anything about you.” With a nod and a whipping finger pointed at Junsu, her eyebrows scrunched at him too.
Junsu grabbed Taeyeon’s hand and pretended to bite at it when she began poking his face all over.
After a few more fits of laughter, Junsu gave up and cleared his throat.
“I kissed a guy before.”
Taeyeon let out a small, amused laugh, “Really?” Her eyebrows rose. “Just one kiss…or more than once?” She scooted closer, a finger drawing shapes on Junsu’s chest now.
Junsu sighed, resting his head against hers, “More…” than once, actually we did more than just kissing-Junsu was about to say but decided not to when Taeyeon squealed.
“Did you write a song about it?” Taeyeon wondered, resting her chin on his chest, chuckling as she remembered how Junsu proposed to her in a song.
“Nope, I wrote a rap about it,” Junsu joked with a laugh.
“Now I’m gonna imagine you as the seme for every yaoi manga I read,” She snorted. Her inner otaku was showing.
Junsu smiled.
Girls. He never will understand why they have such a liking to that.
--
After a few more months, Taeyeon and Junsu found out they were expecting.
They couldn’t be any happier.
Taeyeon sighed, tilting her head to one side with a pout as she began rubbing her bulging stomach. “Oppa,” she wiggled the foot that was resting on Junsu’s lap, who was totally into a game of Fruit Ninja in classic mode.
“Hm?” Junsu replied after slicing a watermelon in half.
She placed her baby book name on her belly, “I think I’ve come to a decision.”
“Mmm…hm,” Junsu nodded, getting extra points for slashing three fruits at once.
His wife made a face, knowing he wasn’t paying attention to her. “If our baby’s a boy, it’s going to be Yaoi and if it’s a girl, Yuri.”
That, finally, seemed to get Junsu’s attention.
He snorted, then he paused his game and looked up at her. “Seriously?”
“No,” Taeyeon wiped off her amused smile with a shaking of the head and sighed. “I was thinking, Inhwan for a boy and Sujun for a girl,” She grinned.
Her husband inhaled deeply, his eyes squinting at her, “Hmmm…” Then he began to nod slowly. After a moment, Junsu was grinning. “Inhwan~ Sujun-ah~” He cooed, rubbing Taeyeon’s stomach, “Daddy can’t wait to meet you, baby,” He leaned forward to kiss her clothed tummy.
Taeyeon smiled softly, her fingers threading through her husband’s hair.
--
A sharp cry pierced through the sleeping couple’s ears. It felt as if it was only five minutes ago that they had just finally fell asleep. And now, the baby was crying yet again.
Taeyeon poked Junsu with her foot, trying to get him awake to see what’s wrong with their baby now. “Yah, Kim Junsu,” She grumbled, half awake. “Get uuuup, see why Inhwan’s wailing.”
Junsu groaned, flopping over his wife and buried his face into her neck, whining childishly about how tired, hungry he was, and he had a headache.
Taeyeon used her secret weapon and whispered something against his ear, smiling in success when he got up and shuffled toward their baby’s room.
“Inhwan-ah~ Inhwan-ah~ why are you crying so early in the morning, Inhwan-ah~?” Junsu sang through their tiny hall.
She snickered to herself before falling asleep.
--
“Daddy! Daddy!” Little Inhwan shook his father’s hand, tugging on it to get his attention.
“One caramel latte, one green tea, oh and I’d also like a banana nut muffin-“ Junsu looked down at his son, “Yes, baby,” He scooped him up in his arms so that Inhwan could get a better look at the pastries displayed, “What would you like?”
“One,” Inhwan pointed at a chocolate cake with whipped cream on top.
“Would you like strawberry, banana, or chocolate milk with that?” The cashier asked the small toddler, smiling at how much resemblance he and his father had.
Inhwan nodded shyly, his small hands playing with his dad’s necklace. After a second, Inhwan opened his mouth, “Nana,” He said softly.
“Banana, Hwannie-ah?” Junsu asked, just to make sure.
His son replied with a nod, pouting.
Junsu chuckled, pressing a quick peck that made Inhwan smile again.
Once their orders were filled, the father and son went back to their table. His wife, cousin, and friend (cousin's boyfriend) waited for them.
“Inhwannie-yah~ come to uncle Yunho!” Junsu's friend took Inhwan away from Junsu, letting him sit down properly next to Taeyeon as he placed their drinks on the table.
“Chocolate cake?” Taeyeon cocked an eyebrow at it then shot Junsu a glare before she elbowed him.
“What! He needs the extra energy; we’ll be walking all afternoon, sightseeing and what not.” Junsu grabbed his coffee and took a sip.
His wife sighed and leaned back, “I’m pregnant and stress is my enemy,” She reminded herself as she grabbed her green tea and took a sip.
Yunho chuckled, playing with Inhwan who was on his lap, “How long till the baby arrives, Taeng?”
“In a few days,” She inhaled deeply and took her tea, taking a sip of it.
“Are you excited about having a baby brother, Hwannie?” the pretty man beside Yunho cooed at the boy, smiling as he fed him a spoonful of cake.
Junsu smiled when he saw his son nodded with enthusiasm.
“Hopefully the baby comes before we go to Japan.”
“So many K-pop groups are going into the J-pop market nowadays,” Yunho sighed, tilting his head, as he was unsure if he liked the trend or not.
“It’s good for us,” Jaejoong grinned, “Translating songs into another language is fun and we get to go on complimentary trips, right, Junsu-yah?” When no one responded to him the beautiful male pouted, glancing at Taeyeon who looked stressed as it was and Junsu who seemed like he didn’t want to talk about it.
“We’ll figure it out, Jaejoong oppa,” Taeyeon sighed, pursing her lips as she sat up and leaned against Junsu, “Won’t we, yeobo?”
Junsu smiled at her and gave her a kiss.
--
Junsu sighed, smiling. “She’s so cute, Taengoo… she looks just like you,” He chuckled, poking at the screen of his phone.
Their new baby boy turned out to be a girl.
“Does she?” Taeyeon’s voice was light and tired, “Everyone’s saying she looks like her daddy,” She squeaked, imitating a baby’s voice.
“Nah, she’s very cute and pretty just like her mommy,” Junsu grinned, touching his wife’s cheek on the screen. “I miss you and Inhwan,” He pouted, “I wish I was there.”
Taeyeon smiled, putting her phone higher so she and their baby can be seen, “We wish you were here too, daddy.”
“Come back soon, okay?” She bit her lower lip.
“I will.”
Junsu swore he saw her reaching up her face to wipe her tears right when their face-time session ended.
--
When Junsu came back to Korea, they were a happy family of four.
He finally got to hold Suyeon in his arms and cuddle her and kiss her and sing to her and feed her and shower her with his love.
Inhwan was getting into sports. He was pretty sporty for a three year old; his father made him seem like one, anyway. Every weekend, they would go to the park and try out a new sport. Be it soccer, baseball, volleyball, golf, tennis, and any other sport with balls, Junsu taught it to his son.
Junsu was a little more focused on teaching his son soccer though.
Taeyeon on the other hand was getting busy with her family’s bakery. Out of the nine daughters her parents raised, she seemed to be the only one interested in keeping the family business going.
Junsu and Jaejoong’s J&J Music Company was slowly growing, taking in more projects every month but since Junsu wanted to take care of the kids and not have them taken care by a nanny. Instead of having a separate studio for Junsu to work in, he decided to have one at home so he could take care of the kids while Taeyeon would be managing her family’s bakery.
Some days were productive and some days, Junsu would have to juggle taking care of Inhwan and Suyeon and meeting deadlines.
It was tough but at the end of the day, Taeyeon came home smelling like bread and vanilla. She would go into his work room to tell him it was time for dinner and wrap her arms around his neck from the back of his leather chair and sprinkle kisses at the side of his face.
Junsu would be in the last stanzas of a song and he would finish it because of Taeyeon.
The inspiration she gave him amazed him sometimes.
Then came one day, when Taeyeon didn’t have the same effect on Junsu anymore.
He had lost his muse.
--
The more Junsu and Taeyeon’s individual careers developed, the further they grew apart.
Taeyeon wasn’t able to go home every night.
Junsu’s job was becoming too big to just be continued at home so they hired a nanny to care for the kids during weekdays.
Finishing songs weren’t as easy as they were and Junsu didn’t know why; he had Taeyeon and two beautiful children… what was he missing?
Whenever they found the time to see each other, they would always find something to bicker about. Junsu didn’t want to think too much about it; he just figured it was some sort of marriage phase every couple would go through.
He wondered when they’d get out of it.
“Daddy,” Inhwan sat up in his racecar themed bed and touched his father’s hand, glancing at his sleeping sister before continuing. “How come you and mommy always shout at each other?” He frowned.
Junsu looked at his son’s expression, his heart shattering when he realized how they were affecting their children. “I’m sorry, buddy,” He wrapped an arm around the little guy and kissed the top of his head. “Daddy and mommy are just trying to settle our differences right now.”
Inhwan sniffed, “You’re not gonna diborce, right?”
Junsu’s eyebrows scrunched together, when did his son learn that word?
“Divorce? No, baby, mommy and daddy would never do that,” He hugged his son, pressing a kiss to his cheek. “Aish, for a four year old, you sure are thinking too much like a grown-up,” He pinched his son’s cheek lightly.
“I wanna be a grown-up soon,” Inhwan smiled, nodding. “I wanna drive cars and buy all the candies I want,” His smile stretched into a full grin.
All Junsu could do was chuckle.
--
It all became a blur and before Junsu knew it, he was in a lawyer’s office signing divorce papers.
Taeyeon was sitting beside him, eyes red-shot from all the crying and frustration. She sniffed, bowing at the lawyer before he left them alone.
Junsu sighed, turning to his ex-wife. He’d never imagine calling her that but now it was his reality.
It wasn’t a phase, he realized too late.
“I honestly thought we were going to make it,” Taeyeon dabbed her folded tissue on her nostrils, sniffing. She managed to smile.
Junsu gulped, trying not to cry in front of her. “Y-yeah…” He inhaled deeply, “Me too,” He chuckled stiffly, shaking his head. He paused before reaching for her hand. “Taeng,” He squeezed her hand, looking into her eyes, “I’m sorry.”
And Taeyeon pouted softly before wrapping her arms around Junsu, inhaling his scent. “I know. We both are,” She pulled away, with tears leaking from her eyes again. Despite them though, she smiled.
When Junsu looked at her smiling face, his heart didn’t skip a beat. There weren’t any urges of kissing her. But he could feel his heart being squeezed as Taeyeon held his hand tightly.
That old fortune-teller crossed his mind, and he wondered if she was still alive.
--
The sound of laughter and high-pitched squeals ran toward Junsu.
“My babies! Come to daddy!” Junsu bent down and smiled widely, arms open for his kids to jump into them.
Inhwan hugged his dad tightly, pressing a kiss on top of his father’s head. “Daddy, we missed you!”
“Missed daddy, missed daddy!” Suyeon agreed, her tiny hands touching Junsu’s face everywhere.
Junsu laughed, his arms wrapping around his kids. “Daddy missed you guys too!” He said before scooping them up, grinning when the two kids giggled in his arms.
He had been away for too long. Three months in Japan seemed too long.
It was almost two years after their decision in splitting up and things were good. Taeyeon now owned their family’s bakery and recently bought herself an officetel near it. On the other hand, Junsu and Jaejoong’s composing company continued to slowly bloom, writing mostly for K-pop groups and solo acts who would eventually venture into the Japanese market.
Junsu and Taeyeon managed to stay friends; really good friends actually.
“You got skinner,” Taeyeon smiled as she approached the cute scene of their kids smothering Junsu with hugs and kisses.
“Yeah?” Junsu smiled in return, “I’m glad you noticed. I think you grew an inch.”
Taeyeon wrinkled her nose at him then laughed, “Cut the flattery and take their stuff,” She handed him their bags.
Junsu had to put Inhwan and Suyeon down so he could sling on the backpack filled with the kids’ things. “Say bye to mommy now, we won’t see her till a few days,” Junsu sighed, watching the two hug their mom and bid her farewell with kisses before coming back to their dad.
“Mommy says not to stay up too late,” Inhwan told his dad as he took his hand. Suyeon took Junsu’s other hand and hummed, waving bye to her mother.
“See you in a few days! Be good, okay?” Taeyeon bent down to look at the two better, giving them a playful discipline face.
They both nodded obediently.
“Yes~ mommy, we’ll be good,” Junsu chuckled as he turned around to the direction of his car.
--
Junsu decided going to the carnival would be a good idea. There would be lots of fun things for the three of them to do there, it wasn’t far, and it was fairly affordable. Not that Junsu was a stingy man, he just liked saving. But when it came to his kids, he just can’t help himself.
“Daddy!” Suyeon tugged on Junsu’s hand as they passed by a stand with stuffed toys all over. She pointed at a Mickey Mouse stuffed toy and looked up at him, “Pwease?”
“Mm?” Junsu looked at what she was pointing at and nodded, “Sure, baby. Hwannie, want to help get your little sister Mickey?”
Inhwan who was busy munching on his cotton candy bobbed his head, “Yeah!”
“Alright,” Junsu chuckled, giving the person who ran the stand two coins to play. The objective of the game was to knock down all of the stacked tin bottles by hitting it with a ball. Junsu threw the first ball, letting Inhwan see how it was done then Inhwan took a crack at it and knocked down all of the bottles.
Suyeon cheered when she heard bells going off and the man in charge of the stand was getting her prize.
Junsu praised his son, the father and son high-fiving each other for good teamwork while Suyeon received her new Mickey Mouse toy and hugged it tightly.
“Mousey,” Suyeon smiled as she cuddled her new friend.
--
They were about to go home when Suyeon noticed something (someone) was missing. She stopped her tracks abruptly, making Junsu halt. “Suyeon, what’s wrong?”
She looked at her empty hand and frowned, “Mousey…” Her lips began trembling.
“Huh?” Inhwan held his dad’s hand a little tighter as he looked over to his sister who was about to cry.
“Mousey!” Suyeon looked up at him, tears falling from her eyes. “Where my Mousey?”
Junsu mentally cursed, “Oh, Suyeon-ah,” He frowned a little as he bent down and put his hands on his little girl’s shoulders, “Baby, please don’t cry,” He wiped her tears, “We’ll try to find Mousey, okay?”
Her big brother was pouting as he petted her, nodding in agreement with their dad.
Just then, a man tapped Suyeon’s shoulder, holding her Mickey Mouse stuffed toy.
“Excuse me, I think you dropped your friend.”
Junsu looked up and couldn’t believe whom he saw. “Yoochun?”
The man looked at Junsu a bit skeptically for a moment then laughed, “Junsu? Is that you? Oh my god, it is,” He let out another chuckle. “Surprise seeing you here.”
Junsu stood up and laughed softly, “So you’re… back, huh?”
Suyeon sniffed and looked up at the two of them talking.
“Yeah, I came back a few months ago. I uh….” He shrugged, “Guess I just got tired of living in a foreign country so I came back,” Yoochun smiled then looked at the two toddlers staring up at him.
“This is yours, right?” He smiled at Suyeon, offering the stuffed toy back.
The little girl nodded, both hands extending to receive her Mickey Mouse.
“Try not to lose him too much or he might not come back,” Yoochun advised her, petting her head gently.
“So you’ve got kids now, huh?”
“Yeah,” Junsu smiled, placing a hand on each kid’s head. “My eldest is Inhwan and my youngest is Suyeon.”
Yoochun smiled and waved at them both, bending down to shake their tiny hands, “Nice to meet you,” He said with a friendly beam.
Inhwan grinned and felt that he liked him; Suyeon had the same thoughts as well.
--
“Are you sure he’s the Yoochun?”
“I even called him Yoochun and-" A gasp, "He recognized me!” Junsu said in a slightly sarcastic tone. He still was in a bit of a daze the morning after and now they were in his favorite café, in line as he talked to Jaejoong via Bluetooth.
Jaejoong didn't seem to pick up on the sarcasm though. “Is he as handsome as you remembered him to be?”
Junsu sighed, glancing to his right to check on Suyeon and Inhwan who were waiting for him at a table by the window, preoccupied with watching traffic, people, and a few dogs passing by. “I…I guess?” Junsu blinked; did he remember Yoochun as handsome?
“Wow, this is like that one movie about a recent divorcee who kissed his camp buddy when he was a kid and meets him again when they’re adults.”
“Which movie is that?”
A sigh, “I don’t remember the title...”
Junsu rolled his eyes and took a few steps forward.
“But anyway, you should ask him for coffee!”
“What-why should I-“
“Hello, what can I get you today, Junsu-sshi?”
Junsu blinked, surprised and began suspecting Yoochun of stalking him.
--
Taeyeon gasped, as she listened to her ex-husband’s recall of meeting ‘the guy he kissed’, “No way!” She looked entirely into it. She glanced at Suyeon just to make sure she was eating her baby carrots, “Su baby, say ah~” She smiled at her daughter as a spoonful of rice came toward her little mouth.
“Good girl,” Taeyeon praised her and Suyeon smiled as she chewed. “He’s still gay right? I mean, if he’s kissed a guy, he can still kiss one today, yeah?” She tilted her head as she thought about it.
Junsu stared at her weird, “Are you assuming I am?” He raised his eyebrow all the way up to his forehead.
Taeyeon shrugged, “Whom you sleep with is really none of my business,” She displayed a tranquil smile on her face.
“What’s his name? I don’t think you told me,” Taeyeon glanced at Junsu then at Inhwan who was pretending his broccoli and carrot were two ninjas fighting to the death. “Kim Inhwan, don’t play with your food,” She gave him the look.
Junsu sighed, “Yoochun.”
“Park Yoochun?” Taeyeon looked at Junsu with another smile tugging on her lips, it looked like she was trying not to laugh.
“How…do you know his last name?”
Taeyeon closed her eyes and placed a hand to cover her mouth then snorted. She, apparently, found this funny.
--
The next day, Taeyeon insisted that Junsu should come to the bakery to see its improvements (and Park Yoochun but she hadn’t told him that, it was best part). To make sure this would happen, Taeyeon made him sleep over, using the kids as bait so in the morning, and all she had to do was drag him to work after they have dropped off the kids at the day care.
“Are you going to force labor upon me too?” Junsu followed Taeyeon inside the bakery, taking notice of the few people already in the shop.
His ex-wife scoffed, “Yah, I’m the one doing you the favor. Now, follow me,” She led him to the back to meet the new staff members; one of them being none other than Park Yoochun.
“Okay, now I think it’s safe to say that you are stalking me,” Junsu crossed his arms, a small playful smile on his lips. Despite of Junsu’s nervousness, he was still himself.
Yoochun smiled, bowing his head softly upon meeting him again.
Taeyeon smiled at both of them, not being able to hide her old, otaku self. “Are you guys seeing bubbles and sparkles in the air?”
Junsu nudged Taeyeon discretely.
Yoochun looked at the two and searched for rings but didn’t find any; before he could ask, Junsu’s phone rang and he excused himself.
“Jaejoong? What’s going on?”
Taeyeon stood beside Yoochun and gave him a pat on the back, “Don’t worry, Jaejoong’s just his cousin; partner at work.” She pointed at Junsu as if she poked him, “I think he’s smitten by you.”
Then a few seconds pause.
“Anyway, you still remember all the procedures and training you went through yesterday, right?”
Yoochun nodded his head diligently.
“Alright!” Taeyeon slapped Yoochun’s upper arm, “Man your stations!”
Yoochun felt the need to salute to her before going to the front of the store into the cash register. He found Taeyeon to be one of a kind.
--
Just when Junsu was about to go home from a frustrating day at the studio, because one of their clients weren’t fully satisfied with the song, he got a call from Taeyeon saying he needed to go back to the bakery.
He sighed and turned left instead of right.
If it weren’t for the middle-aged chubby man, who insisted that he and Jaejoong fix the song rather than go to other music production companies to avoid the hassle of getting his money back, Junsu wouldn’t be in such a sour mood.
Junsu went inside the store even though the tiny sign was flipped over to ‘sorry we’re closed,’ because the owner used to be his wife.
“What was so important that Kim Taeyeon had to text me thirteen times to come back?”
Yoochun stood up straight from behind the counter, “Huh?”
It turned out Taeyeon already had gone home and it was only Yoochun and a few other employees that were left to clean. Taeyeon could be so annoying sometimes.
Junsu sighed, scratching the back of his head as he walked toward the counter. If he didn’t get this over with, Taeyeon would bug him again tomorrow. “So…uhm, listen-“
“Oh!” Yoochun snapped, “She told me to give these to you.” He grabbed a paper bag filled with Junsu’s preferred pastries from underneath the counter. “She said that you probably haven’t eaten yet,” he gave him a scanning look before asking for confirmation.
“Have… you eaten yet?” Junsu asked, glancing at the paper bag on the counter.
Yoochun hesitated, “Uh… I-“ But his stomach, that grumbled, gave it away.
Junsu chuckled, “Why don’t we both have dinner together to…catch up and all that good stuff?” He offered. Since they haven’t met in over ten years, Junsu would imagine they’d have a lot of catching up to do.
“Uhm,” Yoochun pursed his lips (Junsu noticed he had dimples, so cute), wondering if it was good work ethics to have dinner with his boss’s husband.
“Consider it as a thank you for finding my daughter’s stuffed toy the other day?”
Yoochun thought it wouldn’t hurt; they used to be camping buddies after all. So he accepted with a smile, “Alright, you’re on.”
--
They decided to have some late night samgyupsal at an eatery near the bakery.
There weren’t a lot of people, considering how late it was and the fact that it was a weeknight, folks had other things to do rather than have samgyupsal and reconnect with their old camping buddies.
Junsu thought it was going to be awkward, since it had been more than ten years and being camp buddies more than a decade ago was their only reason to catch up with each other’s lives.
Yoochun on the other hand still felt guilty for accepting his boss’s husband’s offer; he knew the chances of Junsu being attracted to him was low…but still, they kissed (and did other stuff) when they were young and he just couldn’t stop thinking about that.
But… it outlived Junsu’s expectations. They had more in common than he thought. And Yoochun felt much better after a few shots of soju (you can’t have samgyupsal without soju).
First, Junsu found out that Yoochun lived in more than one place in America. It seemed like he was living in poverty; Junsu noted how Yoochun kept saying everything was so expensive and how he couldn’t really trust anyone. For five years he worked there as a waiter in all sorts of restaurants then moved to Japan when he had saved enough money. He said living closer to home was a lot better.
Junsu wondered if he had passed by Yoochun when he was in Japan.
“Is it easier to live for you here?” Junsu asked after another shot of soju.
“Yeah,” Yoochun nodded, “My parents are here,” He shrugged a shoulder, “And I finally reached a compromise with them.”
Junsu chuckled; Yoochun seemed so carefree like a teenager.
“Enough about me though, how about you?” Yoochun turned the tables and it was Junsu’s turn to pour his life story.
He started with his proud music company with Jaejoong and how big it’s growing because there are so many groups wanting their songs translated in Japanese; and the J&J Music Productions were really good at it. Then he talked about his divorce and how his marriage lasted a little over five years and in that span of time, had two children.
“Ahh…divorced.” Yoochun nodded slowly; so there was nothing to feel guilty about…in fact, he was somewhat relieved.
And then they got into the topic of Japanese food and everything blurred together after that, all Junsu was sure of was that he had a good time and made Yoochun laugh when he told him about the story of his bad sushi day. Then he told Yoochun his favorite dishes and Yoochun offered to make them because he liked making Japanese dishes. Junsu agreed, although he just arrived back from Japan.
Before anyone got too tipsy, they called it a night and Junsu drove Yoochun to his apartment.
“Thanks for dinner and the ride home,” Yoochun smiled at him, “I’ll definitely have to make you more than one dish now,” He chuckled.
Junsu grinned, “I don’t mind, as long as you keep your word on those dishes. I could even pick you up tomorrow for work if that means I’ll get three dishes then.”
Yoochun chuckled, “Ah, tomorrow… I have another job-the one at the café.”
“Hm,” Junsu nodded, “I might go there tomorrow just to see if you’re telling the truth~” Was he flirting or not, he himself did not know.
Yoochun laughed again, amused at Junsu’s crooked smile, “I wouldn’t lie to you.”
“That’s reassuring,” Junsu smiled more, “Thanks.”
Then Yoochun pulled in for a quick kiss on the cheek before saying a faint goodnight then got out of the car, hoping Junsu didn’t see his flushed cheeks.
“Uh-you’re welcome,” Junsu blinked; it felt surreal.
--
Junsu groaned, he just woke up from Jaejoong’s constant phone calls. “Whaaaaaaat.”
“You know, just because you own half of the company doesn’t mean you can be late without notice.”
“Did you sleep late?-“ A gasp, “Is-is he there?” Junsu visualized Jaejoong’s face just lighting up in excitement because these sorts of things made Jaejoong excited.
“No, he is not here,” He let out another grunt and flopped on his belly. “What time is it?”
“Noon-so he left without waking you up?”
“Shut up, he wasn’t here to begin with.”
“Ooooh, so you did it at his place.”
“No.”
“Then…” Another gasp, “Kim Junsu! You horny-“
“Shut up. There was no doing of any sorts, okay? You’re giving me a headache.”
“Hmph!” Junsu could just hear Jaejoong pouting.
“How did you know I was with Yoochun last night?”
“Taeng told me,” He sounded like he was grinning then.
“Stop meddling into other people’s business please. He’s nice and I like him but-“
A squeal, “See? So you do like him!”
“Not in that way, besides. I don’t know if I’m into guys.”
A snort, “Did you forget you initiated the kiss?”
“…I did?”
“Mhm. You told me before!”
“Oh-well, I don’t know if he’s still into guys.”
“Junsu, once you’ve had a taste of the forbidden fruit, you can never go back.”
“Riiiight. Okay. I’m gonna go get ready and I’ll see you for lunch.”
--
Little did Junsu know, Jaejoong would take him to his favorite café for lunch.
“Hello, what can I-oh, hey,” Yoochun smiled, happy to see Junsu and a friend of his at work. “So you actually came by to check on me,” He chuckled.
Junsu chuckled awkwardly, he actually wasn’t going to come by and check if he really worked there. It wasn’t any of his business whether Yoochun actually worked there or not… they were just mere acquaintances that may or may not be somewhat attracted to one another.
“I did,” He nodded once, trying to ignore a smiling Jaejoong who was acting so obvious (And was trying hard to gulp down all his fanboying). “We’ll both just have a regular coffee and two bagels.”
Yoochun punched the order into the computer then told Junsu his total.
Junsu took his wallet out and paid with a ten-dollar bill, putting the spare change into the tip bottle before grabbing Jaejoong’s arm to usher him away from Yoochun to a table before he was further embarrassed.
“Okay, so I’m not a matchmaker or anything but I can totally tell he’s into you,” Jaejoong smiled smugly at Junsu when he sat down, glancing at Yoochun who was working his charm on other people who were ordering.
“Since you’re not a matchmaker, I won’t take your word for it,” Junsu replied easily, checking his phone for missed calls, messages, or e-mails.
Jaejoong sighed, glancing at his cousin before deciding to spill the beans. “So… Taeyeon has a boyfriend.”
“Who has a what?” Junsu looked up at Jaejoong with a confused expression, “Since when?”
“Since a few weeks ago… well,” Jaejoong paused, looking up to think for a moment, “I don’t know if they’re actually in a relationship but she’s asked me and Yunho to baby-sit the kids a few times.”
“Huh,” Junsu leaned back; he didn’t really know how to take that kind of news.
“I knew she wouldn’t tell you yet because she’s not sure yet either-but, it’s been two years!” Jaejoong leaned against the table, “Two freaking years, Junsu. What’s happened can’t be undone and I think you should move on,” He gestured a not so sneaky hand to Yoochun.
“Stop it,” Junsu hissed and slapped Jaejoong’s hand down.
“This Yoochun guy is hot and I’m sure there are other guys wanting him-you never know who has the same tastes you do,” Jaejoong eyed his cousin.
“What? How do you even know-“
“Excuse me, your orders,” one of the workers approached their table and gave them their drinks and bagels, along with a giant chocolate chip cookie. “A complimentary cookie from cashier number one.”
Junsu glanced at cashier number one and caught Yoochun smiling at him.
Junsu felt his cheeks flush as he returned the smile and found himself waving back a little; then he looked away and cleared his throat to contain himself.
“You’re blushing,” Jaejoong chuckled as he broke a piece off the cookie, but as he was about to pop it in his mouth, Junsu slapped it away.
“My cookie.”
