Landlords are dropping their idiotic demands for reikin in Tokyo... allegedly A teacher on teaching half-Japanese kids Day 08 - Are you a Herbivore or Carnivore? S or M?
First off: the herbivore/carnivore question refers to a media-manufactured "masculinity crisis" we had in Japan not so long ago. Apparently there are too many "herbivore boys" who just aren't manly enough. Do-S/Do-M refers to whether you're a masochist or sadist, but in a kind of cheap, pop culture way. Not if you're interested in doing scenes or not.
The other day, I was in a meeting with my co-workers and one of them was complaining that figure skater Oda Nobunari was too effeminate, despite being a descendent of Oda Nobunaga. I mentioned that my ancestors strapped themselves into kilts and charged into battle, but that didn't mean I was personally able to do that. Another co-workers paused thoughtfully and said, "Well, if I can imagine anyone here doing that, it would be you!"
...He's the one that has dreams about what tie I'm going to wear to seminars.
I am learning that most people see me as Do-S and a carnivore. I think the fact that I'm referring to what other people have said in this regard makes me Do-M. Working in Japan definitely marks me as a masochist.
