(no subject)
I don't know what's wrong with me today. I don't want to do anything. Part of that probably has something to do with a cold that I appear to be developing. But I don't want to read, write, walk or anything. Although I do have a strange compulsion to play sudoku...
I'd really like to go somewhere too, but the trains are all being switched to the elevated track today.
I finished reading "The Memory Game" the other day. kuroe hated it ("although not as much as the others," he added charitably). I really liked it. It's about the passage of time and the way our childhood slips away from us. This is held together by murder-mystery that relies on our changing memory of the past. kuroe hated the fact that the main element of suspense was a red herring (an idea that I thought quite clever, particularly since it lead to the discovery of another clue that was relevent). I liked it despite a very confusing opening chapter.
However, I've developed a new theory about drinking in books. An author can imagine anthropomorphic creatures living on another planet, trolls in waiting in dark caves, fantastic kingdoms... but they can't imagine their main characters drinking anything too different from themselves. And all the characters in the books I've been reading lately have drunk gallons and gallons of wine over the course of the book. Once you start to notice it, you can't un-notice it.

I have to confess, I haven't read any more of the Bokura no manga for quite some time. This is because I've got to the chapter titled "Moji". Presumably he dies in it and I really, really like him for no apparent reason. I'm not sure I can read any more.
