Data Recording 003: Spring is in the air!

Mar 16, 2011 10:55

The weather has started to take a turn for the better as Winter gives way to Spring and Tachikoma is slightly glad about this. While it doesn't "feel the cold," others do, and now that it is warming up, that means more people will be about about. And more people means the chance at more interactions which means more experiences ( Read more... )

[Enjoying a nice spring day, oh, hey, blinkblink. Their resident 'pet' is taking care of yardwork with an absurd sun hat on.]

Excuse me... is that really necessary work in this town? I imagine they sculpt it the way they like to. Or it might reset after each day. [Why hasn't she checked this yet? she thinks.]

[Tachikoma pauses in its work to consider this.]

You think so? I haven't been around long enough to make note of it, actually. I guess this might actually be a good way to test that theory and figure it out, wouldn't it? Though I hope not. I planted some nice vegetables and flowers here and it'd be a shame to see them reset before they could grow...

It certainly would be. Perhaps we'll keep track of it, then. The changes are major enough that I won't really need to take a picture to note it...

Ah, have you always... wanted to ...garden?

Oh no, not necessarily. But then I've never been in an environment to really consider it. Section 9 has primarily trained for urban environments, and my design is slightly a reflection of that as well, so I haven't been in a rural or suburban area for an extended period of time. Or at least for a time without a very specific set of objectives.

Which is why I figured I'd help out around the house and do yard-work and some gardening, since it seemed like not only something that would need done, but also something to enjoy during free time.

Free time. Yes, I see...

You know, Tachikoma, you are really different from our other housemates. I suppose Robo also has a sense of 'free time', but he doesn't have nearly the same sense of -- aimlessness during it that you've suggested. Are you ever curious about returning to your own world?

I suppose there may be some pleasantness to it, though, well, if nothing else, this certainly shows the degree of variance that one might find among artificial intelligences...

Oh, I do hope to return to my home of course, it would be terrible if I didn't get to see my fellow Tachikomas ever again, or even Mr. Batou. But with no direct leads and at my current limited capabilities, there's not much I can do towards that goal right away. In the meantime, I figure it would be best to be as helpful as I can, be on the lookout for answers, and keep track of as many experiences as I can since the other Tachikomas would greatly enjoy them when we synchronize our data later.

But is Mr. Robo an AI too? He certainly looked human the last I saw him....

Well, that's not a bad attitude at all, Tachikoma. I commend you on it. Though perhaps yardwork isn't the most stimulating of experiences. I'd advise you come in and help us with our experiments.

Ah-- his name is "Robo," after all. Yes, he's apparently an artificial intelligence of some kind. I haven't tested it, so he may also simply be crazy, but at this point in Mayfield it seems more prudent to take people at their word.

You mean Mr. Robo is like Miss GLaDOS? Do you think that it might be a common occurrence for others then?

And I would love to help out with anything you're testing in the house. It just might be a little hard for me to get inside through the normal house doors though...

We seem to have the highest concentration of artificial intelligences, and I seem to be the target of some form of humor in that regard, -- or perhaps it's random chance, but there are other interesting coincidences in housing arrangements that suggest it is not necessarily so.

Oh, ah... is that so? Well, we should try to modify the house, then. Perhaps widening the garage entrance to the house?

Oh, that's a possibility! Though we'll also have to take into consideration hallways and stairs... It probably would be best to figure out where you want my help first and plot a way there so it involves the lowest chance of me getting stuck.

Last time that happen, it took a pneumatic drill just to create enough room for me to maneuver back.

...Yes, I can imagine.

Very well; I'll speak to the others about it and we'll see. I'm sure we'd love to integrate you more into the routines of daily life here.
