Wasn't able to go to
fallen_nerd's house because Sunday morning and lunch is definitely family time. No excuses. Sounds like they had a lot of fun hamming it up :p
Spent a few hours editing another write-up. Gawd my head hurt afterwards. I had to read and reread every sentence to make sure I understood it correctly. Even basic subject-verb agreement was absent. Gah. Oh well. I'm being paid by the hour anyway.
Caught the tailend of the UP vs Arneo game on TV. Wish I hadn't. Hay. Why do I even bother to watch? Sigh. Anyway, all I'm really looking forward to right now is the cheering competition on Sept 10. Hopefully, Vane and Kay will be free to watch. We've watched this as a group since we entered UP and I hope we can continue the tradition even though we're all doing our own thing.
I've been getting a crash course on Pinoy rock (indie and non-indie) and spent a few hours downloading songs. I think of downloading as a trial period: if I like the few songs I got, I'll end up buying the actual CD. If I don't like it, I delete the songs and be grateful that I found out before I shelled out a few hundred bucks. Upon Yoda's recommendations, I tried listening to Up Dharma Down, Boldstar, Itchyworms, Sandwich, Pedicab, Cambio, Narda, Urbandub, Sugar Hiccup, and Sheila and the Insects. I also ended up getting Callalily because I remembered them from the UP Fair and Ang Bandang Shirley because I was curious.
Up Dharma Down - love them! ^-^ Nice jazzy feel. Will definitely be buying the album once I scrape up the cash.
Boldstar - only got to listen to "Kumot at Unan" so I can't really form an opinion. The song was nice though.
Itchyworms - I have their 1st album (Little Monsters Under Your Bed) but didn't get the 2nd. "Akin Ka na Lang" has become a personal fave :p I'll probably be getting this too.
Sandwich - I liked them well enough but I don't know if I'm buying any CDs.
Pedicab - Hmm. Liked them too. Dunno if I like them enough to buy a CD.
Cambio - I was only able to listen to "DV" and "Patlang" but based on that, I like them too.
Narda - I bought their EPs years ago in UP after hearing them play at the UP Fair. However, all the CDs have since been lost and I only managed to rip "Salaguinto't Salagubang" *sob* Yoda tells me they already have a full-length album out so I'll probably be getting that.
Urbandub - love them! It's weird that I found them too loud during the UP Fair. I still like them anyway.
Sugar Hiccup - erhm... no. No. Definitely not.
Sheila and the Insects - they sounded nice. Doubt I'd be buying the album though.
Callalily - their songs are ridiculously catchy. Played "Stars" and "Dreams" about 5x. Same level of pop as SpongeCola. I'll probably be buying this too XD And it doesn't hurt that the vocalist is cute... *hides* But gawsh. About half the band is composed of minors and the rest are barely legal!
Ang Bandang Shirley - overall, I liked them. The vocalist was a bit out of tune at times though. I have to admit that I only listened to their songs in the first place because their bassist/vocalist was my classmate in grade school and a batch ahead of me in Pisay. Gawsh. I never figured Owel to be the rockstar type. Always figured he was going to be doctor like his folks. Funny how things turn out. Yoda tells me Owel's a great bassist and a very in-demand sessionist. I hope things turn out well for him.
And now, I really have to study for the Jap exams. Hay.
