Character Background: Yamamoto Takeshi lives with his father, Tsuyoshi, owner and operator of the Take Sushi restaurant. Whether he named the restaurant after his son or his son after the restaurant, the close family connection the Yamamoto's share is evident in everything they do. His dad is Takeshi's biggest fan and vice versa, cheering each other on day to day. It is because of this close, positive, supportive family atmosphere that Takeshi has grown up to be the happy-go-lucky, water down a duck's back kind of guy he is in the series.

That Yamamoto loves his dad can never be overstated. He also loves baseball, though, and games in general. He expects the best from himself in physical arenas, going so far as to consider suicide in one instance of injury. Performing at his best and giving his all are not options but givens. For this reason, Yamamoto is his most serious when he is training or performing a physical task or skill. He is less concerned with challenges to his intellectual capacity where he is not bothered with failure. It is shown that he is not an idiot but simply not applying himself as he picks up knowledge with the same ease and effectiveness as he does techniques.

Yamamoto gets along with everyone regardless of how they treat him in return. He's pleasant and patient with both Hibari and Gokudera, neither of which are renowned or their pleasant dispositions. Gokudera's hostility and insulting demeanor towards Yamamoto go mostly unnoticed by the smiling baseball freak who in return invites him to hang out and takes care of him when he has a Bianchi induced stomach ache. This is part of Yamamoto's nurturing behavior which aims to keep general morale up with cheer and optimism as well as individual health and confidence with his attention and giving nature.

Sometimes enough is enough and Yamamoto has to make a stand. It is not for his own sake that he does this, though, but for the greater good. For instance, Gokudera's attitude towards Yamamoto in the TYL Arc fight against Gamma caused the first ever real conflict between the two where Yamamoto had generally just accepted Gokudera's insults and jibes. His justification for his standing up to Gokudera was not that he was personally tired of the treatment but that Gokudera's attitude was not fitting for the right hand man of Vongola Decimo who, as leader of the guardians, needed to accept and acknowledge them and their strengths. It is not until Gokudera's attitude affects more than just themselves that Yamamoto has to stand his ground and tell Gokudera off. Because he so seldom takes this stance, he is taken much more seriously when he does. In this way, his general foolish attitude does not depreciate how people perceive his serious side as both are genuine.

Yamamoto's greatest strength is his ability to just go with the flow. Not only is he mentally able to accept and adapt to different or even absurd situations, he physically can learn almost any necessary task that will be required. Where others may pause to consider plausibility, Yamamoto is already trying things out. He learned Shigure Souen Style swordplay by being shown each of the initial eight forms only once and was aware enough of his situation to protect the Kyoko and Haru in the attack that surrounded their first few minutes of being in the future. Along with his skill base, his ability to accept and to learn are what make him a natural hitman.

Yamamoto's greatest weakness is his trust in others. Yamamoto does not hold grudges and can be surprised and attacked easily by those he considered to be his friends. This can be seen in the future when he happily encounters Squalo who knocks him unconscious and drags him away as well as in the Inheritance/Shimon arc where he is nearly murdered by his friend Kaoru Mizuno in the school locker room. Because he believes his friends don't really mean him any harm, he is able to forgive them almost immediately and his qualifications for friendship include his own, one-sided feelings. That forgiveness and trust can very easily be betrayed, leaving him half dead, bleeding, and alone as it did in chapter 293.

Abilities/Special Powers:
Yamamoto is a swordsman, exclusively a user of the Shigure Souen style. The first seven forms were taught to Yamamoto Tsuyoshi by his teacher. Tsuyoshi then created the eighth form himself and passed it and the previous seven on to his son when he asked to be taught in swordplay. Forms nine and forward were created by Yamamoto Takeshi. Several forms, unfortunately, seem to require large amounts of water in the battle area, preferably a completely flooded location. Despite that drawback, Yamamoto considers it completely invincible. Yamamoto can use forms one through eleven from this list.

Yamamoto also has the Rain "tranquility" property which he can activate by focusing his resolution into the Vongola rain ring. This has varying applications such as causing things to slow down.

Third Person Sample:

Yamamoto turned the ball in his glove, fingers on the red, spread laces, cap keeping the sun from his eyes. He brought his arm back, leg up, balance perfect, energy ready to release in one hard throw towards the open mit above the dusty plate. This was life. This was living. Shoulder rolled forward, elbow snaped firmly, wrist followed through, fingers released, body and mind focused on a a single projectile growing smaller and smaller then breathlessly swallowed whole in the palm of another's glove.

"Sssstrike three! Out!"

Yamamoto couldn't help but laugh, a smile bursting across his face with the same speed as the pitch he'd thrown. His teammates cheered as did the few people sitting on nearby benches to watch the baseball team's practice game.

"Yamamo~to~!"

He chuckled and bowed slightly to them all, thankful for their support and not so secretly pleased by his own performance so far. He saw Tsuna standing at the fence, both fists raised high in celebration while beside him, bored and annoyed, Gokudera slumped with a cigarette burning idly between his lips. Yamamoto waved to them especially, rewarded by Tsuna's biggest smile while Gokudera turned away to better ignore him. Yamamoto chuckled to himself. It was nice of them both to come.

First Person Sample:
[Yamamoto turns the recording option on, smiling brightly at the handheld device.]

Hello? Wow, this is really neat! I always wanted a smartphone! Haha, I hope whoever dropped this doesn't mind.

[He turns it over, looking for identification.]

I don't remember coming back to Italy. Dino-san, did you drop your phone? [shake shake] I would think Dino-san's would look more beat up. Maybe Gokudera....?

[The device settles in his hands, looking up at his head as he looks around.]

Is this another game? Haha, I hope I'm not losing! Oi, Tsuna? Gokudera? Do you have one of these things too? Wait for me, I've never used one of these before!
