[set during mid-day on March 4th, after the break out] - AUDIO

A deal's a deal, Commander Armstrong.

The bombs are in two two tamers known as "Mega Man" and "Crash Man."

Now, don't come after me, or maybe more will end up like dear Metal Man.

Sacrifices must be made, you know.

breakout, log post, metal man

I hope that it was worth it, Albert.

That's all I can really say on the topic... I thought better of you... I liked you...

... You think I'm an evil person, then?

You called them people.

You called them loyal.

And you disposed of them.

Whether or not that's evil is up to those who debate the morality of using artificial intelligence as tools.

But I cannot call it good.

Most people can't be rebuilt after dying either, Katherine.

And metal can't knit itself like flesh, not without outside help.

That doesn't make it all right to shred flesh or break metal just because it can be fixed.

I had to get out somehow.

In the end, what harm is done?

... My view of you is harmed considerably. My heart is breaking...

And the robots you use... what kind of existence is that for them?

In the end, it will create a better world for them.

... You know, my heart was broken too. By people who take and destroy things that cannot be regained.

But at the same time... this world especially... it shows that one must play the games of devils to overcome them.

Look at the Virus Busters. Their drive to succeed has turned them into the very thing they seek to destroy.

It's inevitable, Katherine. My vision allows me to accept this.

... And it's my vision, Albert, that refuses to allow me to accept it.

Playing by the rules of a devil, the rules of pain, of trickery, of backstabbing and disregard for things in the name of a goal... How can one come back from that? How can one claim to make a world of good with a foundation set on the blood, bones, oil, and screws of the men and robots that had to be used and thrown away to get there...?

And how can I make a better world without giving back what it took from me?

scrapperzen March 4 2009, 08:49:21 UTC
Is that the question to ask?

I'd, personally... ask how you could make a world without expecting it to give back what you take from it...

You're naive, Katherine.

I've seen what men are capable of.

And I'm no better.

Reply

scrapperzen March 4 2009, 09:08:14 UTC
I am naive, I'll give you that.

But I've seen what men are capable of too.

The bad and the good.

If it's all the same to you... I'll keep hoping for the best in people.

geniushubris March 4 2009, 09:13:20 UTC
Then you're not just naive.

You're stupid.

Reply

scrapperzen March 4 2009, 09:21:09 UTC
Stupid enough to give you a chance?

... Yeah, that's the kind of stupid I don't mind being.

I hope you continue to enjoy the books, Albert. In spite of all that's happened... I enjoyed our talks together.
